There was an Installer bug that has been fixed in the latest release (2.3.6a). The below feedback was for the pre-release version (2.3.6fc1).

The installer try to delete "everything" in my Utilities folder !!!!! I lost about hundred of system utilities and 3rd party software inside. Lucky I can restore them through Time Machine.

I will never! never! try it anymore.

Dan Frakes of Macworld's "Mac Gems" has a fairly good summary of DarkAdapted's features and benefits here:

I have tried numerous free options, and they have some merits. But Dark Adapted has given me numerous options I cannot find elsewhere, particularly in terms of functional brightness controls. Gammaworks has never, ever, maintained my preferences settings upon quit and restart. Gamma Control will maintain settings, but it has limited features. I have found Dark Adapted to far surpass other programs out there. In addition, the developer has been exceptionally responsive to customer requests. There aren't that many developers out there who genuinely interact with their customers in this way. I would say that this developer has "woken up," and this program merits being judged on its own terms. Try it and see.

DarkAdapted ReviewGreat Utility - Version: 1.3.2, 6/1/2006 08:15AM PST

All you astronomy types can't have all the fun, this is a great utility for us boaters who do night cruising. Having the whole screen go "Red Screen" so you don't lose your night vision is great, while using a navigational program. Have told all my boating friends about it and we all agree there's no better program out there. Even some very expensive navigation programs only dim the screen, still to bright. I highly recommend this great little utility to both Mac and PC users who do any night navigational cruising.
