HP PSC 2200 Reviewwill not print straight black and white but there is a solution - Version: 7.9, 1/23/2007 08:02PM PST

decadence

I bought the HP C3180 as a backup printer (ink cartridges are too expensive to use as a primary printer) and to have scanning and copy handy in a pinch. Very nice looking printer. Very Apple white look.

Alas, I couldn't print black and white documents after installing the behemoth drivers (54 MB) and software package.

But there is a solution:

HPIJS for Mac OS X:

A major advantage of using this driver over those supplied by HP is the direct interface between HPIJS and the native CUPS spooler, which allows printing from any printer over any available connection such as USB, AppleTalk, TCP/IP (via LPD and IPP), HP JetDirect, and shared windows printers via SAMBA. Additionally, this driver utilizes the existing Mac OS X USB "backend" and thus does not install any software that might interfere with standard USB operation.

The HP PSC drivers are still useful for using the printer utility software.

HP PSC 2200 Reviewfinally fixes problem with printing from web browsers - Version: 7.9, 8/23/2006 07:48PM PST

Version 7.9 finally fixes the problem of web browsers printing blank pages and other problems that appeared with older versions of the drivers when printing from OS X 10.4 (Tiger). Thanks HP, even if it has been over a year since Tiger came out.

Smooth update process, nice new interface, German localized version - works fine for me and really surprised me since my printer is already 4 years old and still supported by HP with new software, great!

Only one little disappointment: When using the new software set for the first time, I saw a "Scan with OCR" feature - which doesn't work. Since there is no readme or other hint for the reason why I had to search on my own and finally read on a website that OCR is only possible if one has installed it with the original CD which came with the printer.

I bought the HP PSC 2210xi for the purpose of using ALL of its all-in-one features in system 9 and 10. Why will HP not put the effort into backing this software and product? This has been a dismal disappointment.

With the advent of Panther my psc 2210 will not scan. I'm not sure what a Twain is but my software can't find it. I have rebooted, repaired permissions, uninstalled and reinstalled, repaired the disk and yelled at it. Nothing appears to work.

Where does one find customer support?

HP PSC 2200 ReviewDriver stinks! - Version: 6.3.4, 1/23/2004 11:35AM PST

I enjoyed the psc 2210xi with OS9 but when I went to OSX the trouble started. hasn't worked right since!
Not w/ 10.1 thru 10.3.2. Drivers from new to 6.3.4 - none worked right

Works fine in OSX Won't work in Calssic.. Unfortunately, I still have a number of 9 native apps. tried every new driver as it came out and talked to tech support. They really seem out to lunch. didn't acknowledge reality of problem, just sorta muddled around w/ 100 questions, and no real answers.
Tempted to get cheap printer until problem solved.

Anybody sorted out problem?

HP PSC 2200 ReviewThis driver is poor - Version: 6.3.4, 1/21/2004 12:14AM PST

It is unbelievable that a company like hp dares to provide SW of such quality under its name.

1) I question that it is necessary for a SW of such functionality to consume 46.1 MB.

2) The way the SW installs on my computer is very importunately.

3) I still have to work to find a way to set-up the SW in the way I want it. E.g., it is not obvious for me how to get rid of the dock icon after restart. Removing if from the start-up items didn't work. I don't want to dive into Unix for this.

4) I don't like the way how the functionality has to be accessed in the GUI. E.g. Scan picture and scan document leads to the same window. Also: all this crap about hp gallery, send scanned document per e-mail and so on. I don't need it.

Result: Maybe hp sells good printer hardware at a competitive price. But the driver SW is ridiculous - at least for Mac.

HP PSC 2200 CommentaryHP is lost - Version: 6.3.4, 1/16/2004 03:32PM PST

It all started when I upgraded to the new 6.0.7 driver. Nothing has worked since. Took it to their repair center (Radio Shack) who said it was ok. Have had numerous e-amil conversation with their tech people doing the ususal stuff even with their new upgrade 6.3.4 which doesn't say it works with 10.3.

I upgraded to 10.3 during the process and have tried the original driver, 6.0.7 and 6.3.4 on different boot drives with 10.2.8 and 10.3 and 10.3.2. System profiler does not recognize the psc 2210 is there nor does the HP Startup Assistant. I'm so mad I'm about to ditch HP but I will say they are trying.

It worked like a champ for almost 12 months running 10.1 and 10.2.x.

Throughout this the HP 970cxi has work like a champ. i'm talking about since Thanksgiving and 38 hours off trouble shooting. The 2210xi is still lost in another glaxy and can't be found. Has anybody found the solution?

Walter
