Product Description:

Whamb is a digital audio player for Mac OS X. Unlike many other players, it has been developped for Mac OS X only. Thus, it is a native player for Mac OS X, which uses several new technologies that this modern operating system offers. This player is light because it avoids the use of any nonnative functionality of the system. Whamb ensures a quality and exceptional fidelity for a minimal consumption of processor resources, thanks to CoreAudio. But Whamb is a general public audio player intended for a comfortable and ludic use, thus we added a very effective system of Skins (or appearence themes). Only a few knowledge in graphics is enough to create your own Skins. Quality of the Skins is obtained partly thanks to `` Quartz '', still another new technology of Mac OS X. Whamb already supports MP3 and OGG VORBIS, but is intended to be extended. MP3 Audio streams are also supported.

What's new in this version:

  • Playlists sharing via Rendezvous ! Share your music with Whamb very easily on your local area network. A "Rendezvous" window allows you, without any previous configuration to open remote Whamb playlists, and play the songs.
  • AudioCD playback support with CDDB support (thanks to freedb.org)
  • New Dock menu
  • Altivec optimization (special MP3 "velocity engine" plugin)

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2 "Jaguar" or higher

Whamb CommentaryTheir site is gone - Version: 1.2, 9/9/2007 01:22PM PST

I wanted to check this app out, and see how it compares to ToolPlayer; unfortunately, their site no longer exists, or it is down.

Now that I look at the last release date, my guess this is a dead app if the last version was released back in 2003... oh well, Check out toolplayer - it may be what you're looking for.

Whamb ReviewThey Stole My $30 - Version: 1.2, 6/26/2007 09:58AM PST

I bought Wham in February 06, it worked well for a short time until Mac OS X updated to the next level and so I waited peacefully for Whamb to similarly update but it never happened. At first anytime I ran Whamb it initiated a dominoe of trouble in other apps so I messed around, wasted a lot of time, and uninstalled and reinstalled several, eventually being sure that Whamb was the culprit. When i ceased to use Whamb the troubles went away. At it's absolute worst stage, Whamb caused a serious kernal error that screwed up my entire my PPC 17 inch so badly that I had to do an archive and install. I emailed the company three times, from the onset of the trouble, politely I must add, but they never answered my emails. All I did was told them what happened and hoped they would respond with a solution.

After 3 months I checked back here to see if anyone else had posted about their troubles or a a solution as I liked Whamb's rich sound and also it's Ogg capability. I was startled to see that it had become freeware, so i knew that many others must've been having trouble too, and that the creators had decided it was not worth fixing. However, it is my view that in such a short time, they should have at a minimum answered my emails, and if truly honest they would have credited what I paid for it back to my credit card, as I hadn't owned it long enough t get much use out of it. So all I can say is where ever these developers go, watch out for them, they do not have the customer in mind when the build and sell their apps - they are crooks! I feel a bit bad about this as they are mostly just students so they say, but I think they ought to stick with freeware if they are not ready to stand by what they make, especially if they take people's money and don't update what they make, nor do they give refunds when they sell something that turns out to be crap.. Here they are:
