I bought Wham in February 06, it worked well for a short time until Mac OS X updated to the next level and so I waited peacefully for Whamb to similarly update but it never happened. At first anytime I ran Whamb it initiated a dominoe of trouble in other apps so I messed around, wasted a lot of time, and uninstalled and reinstalled several, eventually being sure that Whamb was the culprit. When i ceased to use Whamb the troubles went away. At it's absolute worst stage, Whamb caused a serious kernal error that screwed up my entire my PPC 17 inch so badly that I had to do an archive and install. I emailed the company three times, from the onset of the trouble, politely I must add, but they never answered my emails. All I did was told them what happened and hoped they would respond with a solution.
After 3 months I checked back here to see if anyone else had posted about their troubles or a a solution as I liked Whamb's rich sound and also it's Ogg capability. I was startled to see that it had become freeware, so i knew that many others must've been having trouble too, and that the creators had decided it was not worth fixing. However, it is my view that in such a short time, they should have at a minimum answered my emails, and if truly honest they would have credited what I paid for it back to my credit card, as I hadn't owned it long enough t get much use out of it. So all I can say is where ever these developers go, watch out for them, they do not have the customer in mind when the build and sell their apps - they are crooks! I feel a bit bad about this as they are mostly just students so they say, but I think they ought to stick with freeware if they are not ready to stand by what they make, especially if they take people's money and don't update what they make, nor do they give refunds when they sell something that turns out to be crap.. Here they are:

No digital built-in output - Version: 1.2, 4/6/2007 06:52PM PST

Does not list the MacPro's Digital Built-In Output as a Audio device option, so I can only listen in Headphones, not using the speakers..

I really used to like this MP3 player. For one thing, I could create a playlist with everything on my dedicated music drive, which would then "automagically" update when I added new music (good for sharing music among multiple users!). And, when other, larger programs were hammering the CPU, it played without skipping (unlike iTunes). But since one of the later OS 10.3 updates (2 years ago) it has consistently caused kernel panics when I try to launch it on my Mac. Before that, CD playback was broken by the transition from OS 10.2 to 10.3 because, from what I understood from an email from the developer, Apple changed a component that Whamb relied on for CD playback.
Nothing on the developer's page has changed since 2003, and unfortunately it looks like this promising little player is dead.
If you have OS 10.2, then sure, definitely give it a shot. Otherwise, be very cautious!

Would be great if it made use of the iTunes music library so you could organize your music in the same way as you can in iTunes, use your active playlists etc. It just has to read that particular file...I don't see why it doesn't do it already...
Other than that it's wonderful, great sound quality, low cpu...yeah...guess it's all said already.

Folder/sub-list organisation and it'll be there.

iTunes consumes and average of 15% CPU on my Mac - this takes up 10%, which is quite a difference considering the stereo image is more accurate from this player than iTunes' MP3 decoder. Support for .ogg files is the way to go; just as good (and superior in some cases) to AAC, it is patent free and extensible.
This is my default player now because of low CPU use and .ogg support, but I still revert to iTunes for some things - this doesn't play some .pls URL's whereas iTunes does - folder organisation of playlists would be the icing on the cake, which is one feature I miss in Whamb.

Love it!

Excellent application! I've found my replacement for iTunes. (sorry GRRL radio :( Maybe in the next upgrade? ;)
Now that I look at the last release date, my guess this is a dead app if the last version was released back in 2003... oh well, Check out toolplayer - it may be what you're looking for.
