Product Description:

RsyncX is an implementation of rsync with HFS+ support and configuration through a command line (Terminal) or graphical user interface.

Here are just a few possible uses for RsyncX:

copy/update a single file to another location
copy/update a single folder to another location
copy/update an entire volume to another location
Push a copy/update of the booted volume to another location
Push a copy/update of any volume to another location
Make any suitable destination volume bootable into OSX or OS9
Update another location with the source machine's version of rsync
Schedule scripts to run via cron
Setup and Run an RsyncX Server for increased speed and security

Note:

RsyncX installs the current stable release of rsync_hfs from www.opendarwin.org - a site maintained by Apple employees and external contributors.

RsyncX will NOT overwrite your original rsync binary - it will only change the hard link to /usr/bin/rsync_orig.

You cannot use the standard Mac OS X install of rsync to manage HFS+ volumes.

What's new in this version:

Complete rewrite of application. See RsyncX_readme for details. v2.0 will not overwrite the current install of rsync, and is completely compatible with any other versions of rsync within the existing rsync 2.6.0 protocol range.

I had been looking for a utility to back up specific folders from one drive to another, and nothing I had found seemed to fit the bill. Having just learned about rsync (still getting my UNIX legs...), I read about RsyncX on www.macosxhints.com. This is just what I needed. Thanks!

2 things. First, great stuff! Hopefully apple gets on the ball and includes this as part of it's next release as rsyncx or rsync_hfs (and not replace the standard rsync)

secondly, I have to agree with a lot of other complaints: It really REALLY shouldn't change the hard link to /usr/bin/rsync, but should in fact install as rsync_hfs only (maybe with a link to rsyncx)

Installing this pkg as it is kills all of my rsync based scripts (that use the *nix rsync and not rsyncx which is _not_ compatible with standard rsync .. results in damaged and unusable files on the other end). This results in users that require the original rsync to go back and 'fix' what the pkg modified in the first place!
