Product Description:

SPRING CLEANING is the all-in-one cleaning and privacy solution! Secure your privacy by eliminating hidden files! Boost performance by cleaning out stray files! Protect information by knowing exactly where everything is located on your computer! Whether it's routine maintenance or a deep cleaning, Spring Cleaning's powerful tools help you every step of the way!

What's new in this version:

  • File Sorter - File Sorter uses customized criteria to organize all types of files, including documents, images and music, into folders according to file type, size, date created, date modified and more. Users can now easily organize folders into sub-folder groups similar to a filing cabinet so files are easier to access and manage.
  • Photo A.K.A. - New to Photo A.K.A. is Picasa and Flickr support, which enables users to rename, resize and upload photos directly to online photo albums on Flickr and Picasa websites. Photo A.K.A. also includes support for importing images from cameras and seamlessly exporting them to iPhoto with meaningful file names. Additional features include burning files to disc, saving files to archives or disk images, emailing files, resizing images and uploading them to web services.
  • Movie Finder - With the ability to identify 17 common video formats, Movie Finder uses a single interface to find all videos on the Mac, including QuickTime, Windows Media, MPEG, Flash, AVI, iMovie projects, TiVo, DivX, Google Video, DVD files and many more.
  • Podcast Finder - This tool finds files on the Mac recognized as podcasts by iTunes and keeps them in a single, easy to search library. Instead of manually searching for podcasts scattered around the Mac, users can save valuable time by using Podcast Finder to quickly locate podcasts that users want to delete, archive, or burn to CD/DVD.
  • Application Scripting - Spring Cleaning now supports AppleScript and other scripting languages such as Python and Ruby by utilizing the Scripting Bridge support in Mac OS 10.5. This will allow users to create their own scripted workflows to automate common Spring Cleaning tasks.
  • Poser Integration - Spring Cleaning helps Poser users collect and import scene content to better manage their extensive Poser Libraries. Leveraging Spring Cleaning 10's new scripting support, PoserPython's scripting support facilitates collecting scene inventory and packaging it in disk images or StuffIt archives for delivery.

Spring Cleaning ReviewSorry my previous post was confusing to many. - Version: 10.0, 9/8/2008 09:43PM PST

In my previous post I was commenting on Spring Cleaning Version 9.1 which performed well for me in several tests without any errors or any of the problems some other users have reported. I was recommending version 9.1 and advising against any previous versions since I had encountered problems with the older versions in the past. I apologize for the confusion that the previous post caused.

I have not used the newest version at this time, version 10, so I cannot comment on it. However there are a lot of free software options that can do many of the same things as Spring Cleaning.

Again I am sorry for the confusion from my previous post.

I've foolishly tried several versions of this product through the years (and on several Macs) and it has NEVER worked correctly, causing far more harm than good. It's your call if you want to try it, but I'd suggest you avoid it like the plague. I can guarantee I'LL never download it again.

Over my years as an Apple Consultant I've just seen too many clients who OVER-CLEANED thier computer lives with this utility as it cheerfully mucked about in Library and Preferences folders and offered to 'rid' them of stuff just plain _best left alone_. Usually nothing fatal - but all this program seems to really do is try to make people feel good about having spent money on it, and 'solving' trivial, imaginary 'problems' that have nothing to do with why their Mac may be wonky - and perhaps making it just a little too easy to delete things they shouldn't if they really decide to. Ditto with Internet Security which 'protects' them from all sorts of imaginary 'threats' -- that IF they had a good backup, IF they practiced safe, sensible computing, email and web practices -- would be a non-issue anyways. At best, this is Peace Of Mind software, at worst - Piece Of Worthless Cr*p.
