BIAS Peak DV ReviewPeak DV is a good audio program. - Version: 3.2.1, 8/3/2004 02:25PM PST

Goldfinger7400
I don't know what everyone is going on about. The upgrade process is rather convoluted, but that is just because there is a very usable free trial that becomes the full version with an authorization code. I haven't bought 4.0 and don't know if it's possible to upgrade from 3, but at least I was able to upgrade the copy that came with Final Cut Pro 2 to the 3.2.1 version.

Very good option for basic sound editing needs. I used to use Amadeus, but numerous playback and conversion issues brought me back to Peak. Very fast and responsive interface, good support for the newest mac models. A couple stability problems but I haven't found anything better so far.

I've had this product for years but seldom use it since others are available. I've upgraded regularly and suffered through the glitches and hiccups and problems of a product from BIAS.

Example, the "updater" for Peak DV 4.1.1 doesn't exist. When you log in to download, all you'll get is 4.1 which came out some time ago. Click on the Support link? Nothing happens. Broken link. How about http://www.bias-inc.com/support? Well, that opens the directory in your browser (very insecure operation).

Yeeesh.

is out!!!!!!!! Do you remember the SFX Machine Plugin? Well, if you don't, it is an awesome tool to mangle audio in unimaginable ways. It comes in VST and AudioUnit formats.

add my disapproval to the chorus about this program. It feels very half-baked, and now that I've installed this 3.2.1 update, it crashes on every launch -- complaining that Bias 3.1.1 has quit unexpectedly. The crappy menu displays (check out the drop-down list of document types in the Open dialog, or the list of recently-opened items in the File menu) and generally poor interface, not to mention the limited features and non-existent support, combine to give this product a low, low rating. Is there any evidence to support the assertion that this product is actually "optimized" in some fashion for users of FCP?

giving this one star because of the awful update process. Not only do you have to re-enter your serial number but you have to re-enter the authorisation code as well. Come on this is a piece of software not the combination to enter Fort Knox!! You then have to copy certain folders across to the newly created 3.2.1 folder. Come on Bias, get your act together and provide a proper updater/installer!!

updated application "Peak DV 3.2 (OS X)" in e.g. "Peak" or "Peak DV" because it won't startup anymore - you'll get an error like "Operation could not be completed - An unexpected error ocurred (Error code 1000)" instead.
