HP Scanjet 4570c/5500c Troubleshooting ReportLeopard Not Compatible with HP 4570c Scanner - Version: 8.4, 2/1/2008 12:00AM PST

I just bought an iMac with Leopard (10.5) installed and my HP 4570c scanner does not work with the latest HP software, which is only good through Tiger (10.4). Is there a work-around? Help!

HP Scanjet 4570c/5500c ReviewNot Universal! - Version: 8.4, 11/5/2006 11:20AM PST

No Intel support even though Intel Macs were available with this release. It may work better than I think as I discovered a faulty HP USB cable after it failed totally.

For PPC I would recommend it.

Vuescan can use it, but only while running in Rosetta (as HP drivers are still PPC)

I downloaded the 138 mb driver, but can't get the scanner to work. The error message is that the scanner can't be found. Anyone have any advice?

Oddly, the 5300c worked for a month in Classic, but required an additional step cause the scajet wouldn't appear in Photoshop import under file. Then it just din't work.

Thanks,

HP Scanjet 4570c/5500c CommentaryThis is one of the worst professional software on OSX - Version: 7.1.9, 2/14/2005 09:07PM PST

In my experience with OSX over the years, this is one of the very inferior and clumsy programs put out by a major company. Shame on you, HP! Terrible user interface behavior with the HP director program on the Dock, if it works at all. Unpredictable when used in multiple account setting. Almost zero significant improvement from the primitive software from years earlier. Fails to recognize, initialize, launch programs.... People, why should we put up with this?

I've discovered that the software will install from any account but only
run on the first account I created when I set up OS X.

Othewise, you just get the bounce.

I use a G4 with OS X 10.3.4 I have an HP Scanjet 5300C Have been unable to use it with OS X I downloaded the PrecisionScan Pro and installed the software. When I try to open it nothing happens. Is there something I am missing here? I would like to use the scanner which has been sitting idle for too long.

I'm using a 5370C under 10.3.3. I just started up ScanJet controls, quit, and then launched PrecisionScan, and everything worked great. It would be nice to get a scanner driver upgrade from HP but at least this works!

I'm using the HP PrecisionScan Pro 3.2.1 with an Scanjet 7400 under OS X 10.3.3. The same problem with the flashing dock-icon appears. After starting the app HP ScanJet Controls, PrecisionScan works fine. Maybe the software needs some kind of initializing?
