Genesis Plus CommentarySHAREWARE - Version: 1.2.9, 3/19/2008 03:07PM PST

This is NOT freeware as indicated by Version Tracker, it's SHAREWARE. Please, for a Sega Genesis emulator? I use SNES9X which has more customization options than I can shake my Xbox 360 controller at (WHICH I CAN ACTUALLY USE) without paying the THIRTY (yes, that's right $30.00 for a retro emulator). Ridiculous.

Genesis Plus ReviewExpect To Download It Again and Again. - Version: 1.2.7, 4/18/2006 10:48AM PST

I asked the author why I had to continually update their software and if they could do a software update program for their software to make the lives of their users much easier instead of having to download a new copy almost monthly, unstuff it and replace the old version.

It gets even more complex with the Emulator Enhancer add on which also needs regular updates.

This is the reply that I recieved when I voiced these concerns:

"I see no need for automatic updating, as such a feature provides a whole lot of dead traffic to my web site - which
has to be paid for - and is a relatively minor issue as anyone who looks at my web page can quickly see what the latest versions are."
-Richard Bannister March 13, 2006

So all we, the users, are to the author is traffic. This concept of visiting a website would be a decent idea in the ideal world but must be a complete headache for the modem users, the people that lack a constant internet connection and the people who actually want to play these emulators.

If the author desires so much traffic then maybe he can do so by providing some content on the webpage such as more information/help files/forums on the products he offers instead of forced updates.

I want to run an application that works, not a car that needs tuneups, upgrades add ons and trips to get serviced.

Seems very slow compared to SNES9X. I can run SNES games easily at full speed or faster, but I have to quit everything just to keep the sound from cutting out and the framerate from dropping when I run this on a 450mhz G3. Weird, considering that the SNES has better graphics than the Genesis.

Genesis Plus ReviewIt finally works… - Version: 1.0.3, 1/24/2003 06:27PM PST

with my Mac compatible game controller! (HammerHead FX) Now the emulator is actually usable. It wasn't very good trying to use the keyboard, but with a joystick, it's as good as the original Genesis! (or better) Thanks Richard!!! I paid.

the directional pad with my Gravis Eliminator Aftershock...I have to use the joystick, and the controls aren't at all precise with fighting games (but support is great for it on the snes emulator). Also, some games will not play properly (mortal kombat speeds up and slows down, graphical glitches, Alisia Dragoon won't even get past the first screen, Mickey Mouse Caste of Illusion won't play music). The weird thing is, on the author's previous emulator the games seem to run better (Alisia Dragoon is actually playable, for example) still, best emu around.

Genesis Plus ReviewTechnocop? Ewwwww.... Yes,… - Version: 1.0.3, 12/21/2002 12:16AM PST

MrMacMan
support for X, Y, znd Z buttons would be nice. Let's not forget the "Mode" button, which some games actually used. Other than that it is extremely promising. I'd give 4.5 stars, if possible.
