Product Description:

dataComet-Secure for OS X offers fast, reliable terminal emulation for local Shell sessions, SSL / TLS Telnet / TN3270, SSH1 & SSH2, and serial devices such as modems

  • Telnet sessions offer Kerberos 5 and SOCKS v4 security options
  • Supports both SSH1 and SSH2 sessions with strong encryption + SCP file transfer
  • Security features allow better local security than Terminal; e.g., you can allow Telnet and SSH use while denying users access to Shell sessions on Kiosk machines
  • Emulates VT100 - VT320, PC-ANSI, SCO-ANSI, and IBM-3279 for mainframe access
  • Extensive file transfer support: SCP, X/Y/ZModem, IBM IND$FILE
  • Edit windows for off-line composition with easy paste-thru to emulator windows using the Enter key
  • Thorough on-line documentation (500KB of text)
  • On-line help: pressing Control and selecting a menu or dialog item fetches the documentation for the item
  • Powerful AppleScript and macro support with automatic macro recording and an easy-to-use key remapping dialog
  • Modeless dialogs ease session configuration

What's new in this version:

  • 10.2.0 versions are now packaged as a Universal Binary, which yields greatly enhanced performance on Intel machines. This also avoids spontaneous logout problems which have cropped up with PPC applications running on Snow Leopard.
  • Resizing or zooming an emulator window now resizes the font to fit the screen area.
  • The Comet fonts are now embedded in the application bundle in addition to being provided as free-standing fonts, so it is no longer necessary to install them in the /Library/Fonts folder in order to get correct rendering of graphic characters.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.5 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9

dataComet-Secure ReviewNow compiled with Xcode!! - Version: 10.0.6, 4/1/2008 07:04AM PST

After what seemed like a realy long time with no updates DataBeast released 10.0.4 while is now compiled with Xcode. This seems to be good news, showing us they are still committed to the product. Hopefully this signal that work has begun on a Universal Binary version. Then my office is free from Rosetta!!!

dataComet-Secure ReviewGreat, but buggy - Version: 10.0.2, 10/1/2005 04:59PM PST

I was hoping to start using this again, since Apple's terminal lacks some features found in DataComet-secure. Unfortunately, it seems to be pretty buggy under Tiger. It crashes when editing password fields, and there are other GUI glitches.
This is unfortunate, because this is a very good program otherwise.
Not perfect, but pretty good.
iTerm would be great, but it also crashes under certain circumstances.

Still looking for a terminal better than Apple's, that doesn't crash.
