Product Description:

OSXvnc is a full featured VNC server providing remote access to the GUI, keyboard and mouse using any VNC client.


Redstone Software offers this VNC server particular for use with Eggplant, our Remote Automation and Testing Software.


Additionally VNC Clients are available for Mac OS 9, OS X, Windows 95/98/ME, 2000, XP. Many flavors of UNIX, LINUX, and many many more. For more info on VNC visit http://www.realvnc.com/

What's new in this version:

  • Added GUI Support to Establish Reverse Connections to listening VNC Viewers: You can now add as many listening hosts as you want directly from the GUI.
  • Converted OSXvnc to a full Universal Binary For Improved Intel performance.
  • Added a mode to force backward compatibility to older protocol versions (3.3).
  • Added a flag to disable the screen saver while clients are connected.
  • Fixed a problem with screen updates on INTEL Prerelease 10.4.2 and above.
  • Fixed a problem with Jaguar Extensions(Bonjour) when first "Configuring the Startup Item", worked on subsequent boots.
  • Fixed a problem with the "ConnectHost" option when specifying IPv4 addresses or host names which resolved to IPv4.
  • Fixed a problem where the application could user CPU cycles even when no user was connected.
  • Fixed a problem with IPv6 host names not showing up
  • Fixed a problem with repeated crashes not exiting the keep-alive script

The requests for posts on port 80 are so that Vine Viewer can perform a IP resolution for your internal and EXTERNAL IP addresses. You seriously call it suspect, posted in public showing you didn't even bother to email the company, and show your ignorance at the same time. I had your same concerns, but I tossed a www.redstonesoftware.com into a browser, found there support email address and got an answer back in less than 5 mins as to why it was doing what is was doing. Its providing a feature for you... And you posted your ignorance twice as well. Shame on you.

The VNC server is more flexible than OSX integrated VNC server allowing client to connect using less than millions colors improving reactivity when connecting on a machine.

It has a lot of option and can be started from the command line which is nice if you don't want to have it running all the time. (you can log in through ssh to start it when needed)

The server is advertised on the website a a free product (only the viewer requires a license) but it is periodically trying to connect to the port 80 on my machine even though there is no update autocheck functionality...

Why on earth does it need to access port 80 for? This is an extremely upsetting and suspect behavior.... :-(
