Vine Server ReviewWhy not ask instead of posting ignorant statements... - Version: 3.0, 5/22/2008 11:53PM PST

The requests for posts on port 80 are so that Vine Viewer can perform a IP resolution for your internal and EXTERNAL IP addresses. You seriously call it suspect, posted in public showing you didn't even bother to email the company, and show your ignorance at the same time. I had your same concerns, but I tossed a www.redstonesoftware.com into a browser, found there support email address and got an answer back in less than 5 mins as to why it was doing what is was doing. Its providing a feature for you... And you posted your ignorance twice as well. Shame on you.

Vine Server ReviewRock solid VNC server but.... - Version: 3.0, 4/17/2008 09:05AM PST

The VNC server is more flexible than OSX integrated VNC server allowing client to connect using less than millions colors improving reactivity when connecting on a machine.

It has a lot of option and can be started from the command line which is nice if you don't want to have it running all the time. (you can log in through ssh to start it when needed)

The server is advertised on the website a a free product (only the viewer requires a license) but it is periodically trying to connect to the port 80 on my machine even though there is no update autocheck functionality...

Why on earth does it need to access port 80 for? This is an extremely upsetting and suspect behavior.... :-(

I replaced my iBook with a MacBook, so I needed to update my node-locked version of Vine Viewer with a new host ID. I tried to use the automated update function on their support web site, but I couldn't because the email address (which they use as customer logon ID) on their database was no longer valid.

I emailed them & described my dilemma, providing the necessary info. This was on a Sunday afternoon, 2 days before Christmas. Within an hour, Todd from customer support responded with a new license key and updated my user ID.

On a Sunday. 2 days before Christmas. Not bad.

Love the product, too. Took advantage of the free upgrade offer, so I'm now running version 3.0 of the viewer & server.

Vine Server ReviewUpgrade Policy Change - Version: 3.0, 12/19/2007 09:49PM PST

Redstone Software has since reversed their upgrade policy and is offering a free upgrade to all users who have purchased Vine Viewer in the past 30 days (providing a refund for those who already paid for the 3.0 upgrade, which includes me). In light of their sincere apology emailed to current Vine users, I would like to retract my previous review and give them five stars.

Vine Server ReviewDidn't wait and glad I did... - Version: 3.0, 12/19/2007 09:40AM PST

I just bought the Vine Viewer (Vine Server comes with, but is free, open source apparently) 19 days ago. I had hoped they would be nice enough to give an upgrade for free too. Was not the case yesterday so I bought the upgrade cause of the full screen feature and promise of higher stability. I'm glad I bought, and upgraded full screen rocks! Also just got an email that says I get a refund too cause of an oversite on the developer's part for a 30 day free upgrade period. So, I'm happy as a clam!

Vine Server ReviewVery Poor Customer Relations - Version: 3.0, 12/18/2007 08:08PM PST

I just purchased version 2.2 a little over a week ago, and emailed their customer support about a free upgrade to version 3.0. They told me I had to pay the upgrade fee of $15 just like any previous owner. Eerrgh. It's not the $15 that grinds me . . . it's the blatant disregard for customer relations. Most companies have some small window, a month or so, for those who just purchased a product to receive the upgrade for free. It's a clear indication of how they really view their customers.
