Product Description:

One of the most misunderstood mammals, bats are actually very beneficial to mankind and the environment. They help control harmful insect populations, as well as rain forest regeneration, among other benefits. Although much of western culture fear or loath bats, many cultures view bats as symbols of happiness, and good luck.

The only mammal truly able to fly, there are hundreds of species of bats. Most are insect eaters, but there are species that feed on small animals and fish, fruit, and even nectar. Some bats are responsible for cross-pollinating night blooming trees, shrubs, and cacti. There are only three species of Vampire bats, all found in Mexico, and throughout South America. They prefer to feed on the blood of birds and cattle, and very rarely that of humans.

With Batz on your Macs, Balin and his bat buddies fly around your screen hunting for food. A full moon shines, and the gentle sound of crickets can be heard in the background. Mesmerizing, and very relaxing.

You may use Batz for FREE, but if you register for $5.00, you also get three additional bats, including Balins' girlfriend, Bella, and a realistic Little Brown Bat. Other benefits of registration include background customization features.

Batz! Screensaver ReviewWorth the Five Dollars... - Version: 2.0.2, 8/31/2005 04:01PM PST

Disclaimer: I am a total bat fan. That said, this screen saver is quiet and enjoyable. I've noticed no bugs and the ability to use your own pictures as backgrounds is a great feature. You can have the moon, or not. You can choose between different types, and combinations, of bat. You can have cricket sounds and bat chirps, or not. You can have a few bats or a bunch. You can have fast, slow, or anything in between bats. What's not to like? Five dollars is a reasonable price for this. What do you expect Cinamascope (tm) with Dolby (tm)?

Give the software provider a break here. If you feel you can do better, at a five dollar price, go for it. Otherwise just enjoy this fun and quiet little screensaver.

I see, if you want the good stuff you have to pay. I paid the five bucks to really be able to test it. That's not a smart move on the makers part. It doesn't give a true test and can only leave you less stars for what people are left with trying, a basic half ass freeware. The extra backgrounds were nice, but I could do a little better making my own. This might be fun to use here and there, but my main one continues to be Marine Aquarium. I hope this gets better with time. I would loose the pink and blue bats, I mean, come on now. Who would ever use them. Maybe you could make them into pink & blue vampire bats attacking a purple cow with green strips on a candycane background. I guess this is worth the five bucks and four stars.

Very good start, but not worth money yet. I do like the idea and the controls. The moon is great, now just get rid of the cartoon bats and put real ones in. It would be great to have real bats and every once in a while have one come at the screen like an old 3-D movie. It wouls be cool to record real bats and bring it into human hearing range. I know it's a lot of work to use real bats, but man that would be tits on a ritz. Then I'll pay 10.00 to 20.00 depending how cool it is.
