Product Description:

Picture Stories lets you make little webpages of stories you write where some of the words are replaced with images (called "rebuses"). Lots of people have written cute little storybooks for kids that are like this, so I thought I'd write an application that let me make them using online image search engines (of a folder on your hard drive). Someone has probably had this idea before, but I couldn't find anything online anywhere, so I wrote it myself.

If you like it, send me a postcard from the address in the README file!

What's new in this version:

  • Google searching
  • spell-check (on OSX)
  • "open" command to load .txt files
  • outputs in Unicode (UTF-16)
please email me if the unicode still doesn't work on your non-English system...

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.2
  • Mac OS X 10.1

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.1 or higher

PictureStories ReviewAs a teacher… - Version: 1.4, 12/5/2002 08:51AM PST

Digital Doc G
educator I can see this program being great for teachers of English Language Learners and K-2 students. This will be a very useful tool for early production level students. It has lots of potential. I just played with it a few minutes so I don't know if it works with other languages, if so it would also be great for foreign language classes. Thanks for the freeware, you will be getting a postcard from me soon.

all right, I'm reading up on how to get java to use unicode encoding for text entry and file writing - gimmie a break! I'm not "trying greatly", I niavely assumed that java defaulted to unicode for everything.
