Product Description:

This script will convert messages from Mail.app into iCal events or todo items. Place the script inside the folder ~/Library/Scripts.

There are two methods to use this script:
  1. Manually In MacOS 10.4.x (Tiger), you should use the AppleScript Utility to add the AppleScriptMenu to your menubar. Select the messages you wish to convert and call the script by selecting it in the menu
  2. Automatically from a mail rule. In Mail.app, create a new rule and choose "Run AppleScript" as action Click "Choose" and navigate to the script location The script will automatically be called on all messages that your new rule applies to
With MacOS 10.4 (Tiger), Apple changed a lot of Mail.app's internal workings. This means, the script needed a major overhaul. Unfortunately, it also means that the script can't ask for a default calendar when run from a rule, since that crashes Mail. Starting with version 1.5.0, this is solved by determining the target calendar from the rule name.
To change the calendar for manual execution, run the script with no messages selected in Mail. You will be prompted with the option to reset. If you click 'Reset', you may choose or create a new calendar to contain your messages.

What's new in this version:

  • Fixed several small bugs
  • Bug reporting includes system information
  • Uses standard plist file to save preferences
  • Includes both event and todo item creation
  • Includes installer
Users of earlier OS versions should use the alternate download link for version 1.1.4 of this script.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC

Mail2iCal ReviewVery good so far.... - Version: 1.5.0, 11/18/2007 06:31AM PST

I've been using this for just over a week now and so far so good. I had one glitch whereby I hadn't moved the preference file into (/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences). I'd emailed the developer and had a prompt and helpful response which solved this. It's worth a note that I had to switch off FileVault to successfully install this (Switching it back on after installation is fine). Overall I'm very pleased with this extremely useful script.

Do NOT download this piece of crap! As soon as it downloaded on 10.4.7, it crashed Safari and when I re-opened, all of my preferences for Safari were reset to the base preferences. THIS PROGRAM IS JUNK!

I would like to thank Georg Klein of Kleinware. These days we expect software to be great and to work perfectly. Kleinware does that so that hurdle is passed. The differentiation is in the experience dealing with the company behind it. I had some strange installation issues and Georg worked very effeciently to resolve my issue. I will recommend this software to everyone I know on OS X.
