Product Description:

Macaroni is a tool which handles regular maintenance for Mac OS X's Unix core. Normally these tasks run on a regular schedule, in the middle of the night. However if you don't leave your Mac on all night, they never run. Your Mac won't wake from sleep to handle this.

Macaroni solves this problem. If a scheduled maintenance task is not run when it's normally scheduled, Macaroni automatically ensures that it's run at the next opportunity, whenever the Mac is on.

Features:

Automatically runs maintenance jobs
Configurable: Add your own scheduled tasks
Custom tasks can be scheduled as daily, weekly, monthly, or at regular intervals (such as "every three days").
Tracks maintenance history
Displays results of latest maintenance run.
Tasks may be configured to run only during system idle time.
Tasks may be configured to wait until your system is plugged in, saving battery power.
Maintains Mac OS X Unix privileges using the "Repair Privileges" utility

Snow Leopard compatibility - Version: 2.1.1, 10/29/2009 03:45PM PST

It's not made clear here in any way, which is a shame, but according to the developer's website: Snow Leopard Compatibility Today's release of Mac OS X 10.6, a.k.a. Snow Leopard, has brought many questions from people who want to know-- Does your software work on this new version of Mac OS X? The answer is, very simply, "yes". The current versions of all of my software work just fine on Snow Leopard. No updates are needed, so you can keep using the version you have.

The tool is very good! Have your file permissions repaired once a week without any hassle!

It also reveals a weekness of VersionTrackerPro - if you have installed Macaroni VersionTrackerPro does not recognise it, at least not with 10.4.11.

Unobtrusive, set it up, and it just works. I have it installed on several Macs. I find it much easier to configure than *censored*tail, for example.
