our server upon launch to check if there's a new version available. It downloads a small text file with the versioninfo (check it out: http://www.mekentosj.com/versionlabassistant.txt). We do not register any user info on this in any way. But, you're right, this check should have a preference to turn it off, like there is in EnzymeX, our other program. LabAssistant 2 is underway, and will definitely have this build-in. Thanks for your respons! Mek & Tosj

but I haven't had a real chance to use it yet. I was wondering why does it want to connect to: "64.61.216.33.in2net.com"?? (Little Snitch keeps warning me) What exactly is this and why does LabAssistant want to connect to it? I don't intend to sound paranoid about a harmless (and probably very nice) piece of freeware...but these days, well...
