Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner CommentaryUpgrade Price - Version: 5.0.2, 9/13/2009 06:30AM PST

...is $5.99. My opinion is that this "limited time only" price for loyal customers of $8.99 (now $9.99) software, for something functionally unchanged, is excessive. Others will disagree. A 50% of the base price upgrade? Oh well...

Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner CommentaryNeeds an early warning system--"This will take me 36 hours." - Version: 4.0.27, 9/8/2009 07:36PM PST

Mr Reynolds--2008
This application probably does everything it is intended to do, but I find it hard to tell--as with my car dealership, when I hand the car over to them for maintenance, I do not get it back until it is alleged to have been maintained--but everything is done (or not done) in a completely hidden location. At least at the car dealership I am given an estimate of how long the operation will take.

I like the IDEA of this application, but (although I have paid for it, I am not using it. Unlike the old Speed Disk from Norton, I haven't a clue--or even a colorful graphic interface--to amuse me while it is supposedly defragmenting files--and apparently a 160 GB hard disk can become so fragmented that it can take a day and a night and another day to defragment it. There is a blue line, of course: but after the first six hours or so your attention may wander.

Things as apparently simple as "tuning" the computer for broadband, which do not take so long, are similarly uncommunicative about what they can or will do, or what use the application's efforts are on my behalf. While it may be true that "everybody's somebody's baby," this baby seems too deep for me to understand. "The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars, but in ourselves . . ." I don't regret the money, as clearly the developer has contrived an application full of sound and fury at great effort for him. But I wish it could learn to talk to me.

Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner ReviewBack up to Speed... - Version: 5.0.2, 9/8/2009 01:46PM PST

I thought 5 was pretty hopeless, as it was so slloowww, but this version cranks right along. Even paid my upgrade fee, as I'm confident they got it right (the fact that it was under $6 didn't hurt). It still MAY be a tad slower than 4, but it's so negligible that I might be imagining that. So, if the first pass at 5 got you down, give this one a try. There are a slew of apps that do this type of maintenance, but this seems to be the first to address Snow Leopard. Good show, guys. Now all I need to do is find out why all the developers who've done updates for S.L — or it might be the staff at VersionTracker — continue to show the S.L. apps' operating system requirements as only up to 10.5. If it's been updated for Snow Leopard, shouldn't 10.6 be added to the list?

I tried to upgrade to 5.0 and because these guys love PayPal and PayPal was down, I couldn't pay for it. Shame, always was a good product. I've got it running in demo. Might try to buy it again in a few months. Therefore the price is excellent because you can't buy it!

After upgrading to Snow Leopard I found that Leopard Cache Cleaner, which I had used for several months, wouldn't work. I upgraded to Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner as soon as it was available and was sent a new registration code. However, when I started SLCC the old registration code was automatically entered and I could not enter the new one.

The new version runs extremely slowly on my 2.93 MHz iMac with 4 GB of RAM; about five seconds elapses between clicking on a menu or menu item and the action intended. After clicking on Reveal under the Login Items I got an error message saying the program had to shut down.

I have sent the developers an e-mail with this information. The original Leopard Cache Cleaner was an excellent program. I'm looking forward to a fix of this version.

I'm recommending SLCC on the basis of its predecessor, but I recommend waiting for version 5.1.

I logged on (from the GUI) as root, so that I could see the ENTIRE filesystem on my machine and ran LCC Clamav virus scan. It didn't matter whether I chose to scan a folder or a single text file containing only "hello", it just sits there 100% forever and a day. I run 10.5.7 on a dual 1.6GhZ PMacG5 machine with 3GB RAM. When I run as a user with admin privileges, it's just fine!
