D-Vision ReviewD-Vision is perfect for Sony PS3 Compatibility! - Version: 3.2.2, 12/12/2008 02:41AM PST

I read a comment on Demonoid about using D-Vision 3 to fix a problematic AVI file that wouldn't play on the PS3. I tried it and it worked perfectly! It changed something in the file and my PS3 didn't complain and played the file! It's the only thing that seems to work without having to re-encode the entire file! I just ran it through D-Vision tool, "Repair avi file" and made sure the "check for DVD/Divx player" was enabled. It took a couple of minutes (part of that where it seemed to be doing nothing) and spit out the "fixed" AVI.

I've used D-Vision for ripping and encoding many DVD's but never once though about using it to improve files (that have already been encoded) for Divx-DVD or PS3 compatibility!

D-Vision, despite not being updated in almost 3 years still remains one of my most favorite xvid encoders and now that I've found yet another use, I'll be using it even more!

It's great, never crashed on me. Has just enough options without being confusing and the Tools this app has make it an indispensable app on my Mac. I'd be lost without it! No other app seems to come close to the Xvid quality of this app. I've tried HandBrake, VHub, ffmpegX and but so far, for Xvid encoding, D-Vision still tops them in quality. Also, the size of the final file is really good too.

Oh, and to top it off it's free! This is just one of those apps I've donated to because it's been useful for me for years! I've used it all through Tiger and now in Leopard on my Intel MacBook.

No other app has this good a set of useful features. My only complaint is that documentation could use some work though.

If for some reason it stops working, just uninstall and reinstall it to get it back to working order. I had to do that recently because something I had installed (not sure what) messed it up.

OSX Tiger (updated regularly) Intel iMac.
The application crashes when starting. So that's why I can say... "Have not tried".

I was having problems finding an app to reliably & quickly join avi files, I tried Visual Hub, Simple MovieX & Reel Bean with varying degrees of success but this app does the job by far the fastest - about 30 seconds to join a typical 2 cd avi compared to up to 3 hours for Quicktime!

best movie compressor i have used. i prefer the 2 pass compression yeah i takes longer but the results are worth it. better then handbreak. great for archiving or taking movies on trips. there is a video how to use this app out there - just google it is worth it for the newbies like me when i started using this. divx is still a mystery would have been cool if they could make .mov files. that would be my only request- not a complaint. download this now.

This is a fantastic tool! Rip with Mac the Ripper, and convert to DIVX/AVI/whatever with this. One note: if you have a dual processor or dual core Mac, be sure to turn on the second processor or core in preferences to double the speed of conversion.

D-Vision CommentaryProblems on iMac CoreDuo - Version: 3.2.2, 5/1/2006 08:50AM PST

Hmmm, on my iMac CoreDuo, the crop function doesn't show the right crop area. And long DVDs (greater than ca. 1:50 hours) lost the end of the film.
Crazy, with Quicktime the divx length is too small and a few minutes on the end are lost, with VLC it works! I have test this with a few dvds, all compressed xvid have no end.

I have used this setup: newest D-Vision 3.2.2, Xvid, 2pass, best quality, 1200kbit/s - Source is DVD.

Version 3.1.5 on my Cube has no problems that i have described above.
