hands down the best

I haven't had any problems running Thingy. Infact, it's been faster and so much lighter than both Fetch and Transmit.
So far as freeware goes, it's tops.

Won't even open

I download it, click on the icon, it starts to open in the dock, then disappears.
Running latest 10.4 operating system.
This sucks.

I've used several FTP clients and this one isn't very user friendly in my opinion. I don't get why when I open a connection window that it doesn't show me the contents of the directory I'm in and it doesn't by default show me the progress of the files being uploaded, etc.
Flawed links and flawed thingie - Version: 1.1.1, 9/23/2005 10:01AM PST

Download links on versiontracker insisted on getting version 1.0.2, which had some definite flaws. I finally downloaded ver. 1.1.2 application (not listed on version tracker) from Developer's site

However, after unstuffing the .sit file the thingie doesn't open, just bounces around in the dock. The source files are available, but I don't have the time now to find out how to compile them.
So I finally went for CyberDuck 2.5 and am quite pleased. I'd still be interested in trying out the thingie, just for fun, if you fix the link and/or application file.

Works but could be more optimized

FTP Thingy works as long as you don“t have to upload or organize complex stuff. The graphical user interface is a little bit spartanic and minimalistic but everyhting is self-explanatory for users with a bit of webdesign experience. If the program could be more optimized (better workflow, better user interface handling) it would be a good choice for freeware users instead of shareware licensing Tested on a PowerMac G5 Dual 2 GHz, Mac OS 10.3.7 and 2.5 GB RAM. No problems occured during the upload of a 20 MByte binary file.
Love it - BUT

There is absolutely no help or customer support, and they don't even have the courtesy to tell you what version you currently have, so you have to jump thru all kinds of hoops to find out.

After months of trying to make Fetch work properly, this simple FTP program is a welcome blessing. I don't have the need to do any complex stuff- just post a song or a .gif or movie to my blog every now and then. With Fetch, it was always hit or miss; with this "Thingy" it works right the first time and all the time.
Well...

+1 star for being free...
+1 star for working...
-3 stars for making my processors go to 100% use - both of them!
On a Dual G5 2.0 with 2.5gb ram
Do I need to say more?

5 'greats' from the same person, but no one else - Version: 1.1.1, 12/27/2003 08:24PM PST

Looks to me like it doesn't work, except for the one person who posted 5 times that it;s great.
One thing that would be nice in future versions is some calculation of the Transfer Rate and more detail on the Uploaded/Remaining bytes instead of just a progress bar just because I like to watch that sort of thing
Overall, best free FTP app I've found. Works stable in 10.4.5
