Comictastic fetches and displays over 50 comics (full list.) Your favorite comics are automatically downloaded when the application is launched, or only as you select them. Once a comic is available, you can quickly and easily view it in a handy viewing area. Supported comics include Diesel Sweeties, Doonesbury, FoxTrot, Red Meat, Penny Arcade and more.

Removed support for all comics from kingfeatures.com at the request of the King Features Syndicate Division of Hearst Holdings Inc.
Added the ability to set the referer for date-based comics, which certain sites require.
Fixed a bug where adding a new comic would cause all other comics you had recently added to redownload.
Progress bar now looks empty when idle.
Fixed a long-standing crash bug.
Fixed a minor bug with automatic downloading.
Fixed some errors in the about box.
Modified icon slightly.

Comictastic is still my favorite comic scraping software. I use it every morning to read the funnies on my Mac, as I have for several years. Sometimes it is a little tricky to configure it to get the comic I want, but (except for flash) is always does it. I love being able to see my 42 favorite comics without having to wait for & deal with al the blinking spinning ads on the websites. Yes, the developer said he has moved on. But the software still works.

If you don't buy a license, it displays one of several nag comics to ask you to pay. Simply click to the next or any other comic to clear that for awhile.

So everyday, all I have to do is launch Comictastic (automated via Cronnix) and press the down arrow to see each new comic. Those are all cached on my HD, with option of how long to keep, so performance is great, even on a slow internet connection. I haven't found anything that works as well as Comictastic for what it does.
