Product Description:

Comictastic fetches and displays comic strips from the web. Your favorite comics are automatically downloaded when the application is launched, and are immediately available for viewing. Supported comics include Diesel Sweeties, Red Meat, Penny Arcade and more.

Features
  • Support for 18 comics built-in.
  • Auto-find makes adding your favorite comics easy -- simply type in the web page address.
  • Select only your favorite comics to be displayed and downloaded with Subscriptions.
  • Simple, intuitive interface.
  • Disk caching, so you can view previously downloaded comics, even when you're offline.
  • Save comics in JPEG, TIFF and PNG with drag-and-drop.
  • Export comic definitions, or import definitions created by other people, enabling you to instantly add support for new comics.
  • Zoom in on comics to make reading easier.
  • Automatic update checking.
  • Built-in help system.

Although Comictastic is shareware, it will not limit your usage in any way, except for a simple reminder when you launch the application.

What's new in this version:

  • Fixed some issues with archive downloading (again).
  • Fixed a bug with the window auto-resizing feature that would cause the main window to place itself underneath the dock in some cases.
  • The website of a comic will be rescanned if a " malformed" error is encountered, instead of only rescanning when the leading HTML can't be found.
  • Improved error reporting. Instead of displaying a sheet hanging on nothing when the main window is closed, we display the error in an alert panel.
  • Fixed bug causing Comics.com comics to be assigned to the wrong date sometimes.
  • In the archive downloading sheet, the day portion of the date is now pre-selected, ready to type.
  • Added Spanish localization, thanks to Jorge Salvador Caffarena.

Note: This is unfinished software. As such, it may have big, nasty bugs. Use at your own risk. If you prefer, you can download the previous version here.

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

Comictastic ReviewStill useful & great - Version: 2.3.2, 4/17/2008 10:11AM PST

Comictastic is still my favorite comic scraping software. I use it every morning to read the funnies on my Mac, as I have for several years. Sometimes it is a little tricky to configure it to get the comic I want, but (except for flash) is always does it. I love being able to see my 42 favorite comics without having to wait for & deal with al the blinking spinning ads on the websites. Yes, the developer said he has moved on. But the software still works.

If you don't buy a license, it displays one of several nag comics to ask you to pay. Simply click to the next or any other comic to clear that for awhile.

So everyday, all I have to do is launch Comictastic (automated via Cronnix) and press the down arrow to see each new comic. Those are all cached on my HD, with option of how long to keep, so performance is great, even on a slow internet connection. I haven't found anything that works as well as Comictastic for what it does.

This app does a wonderful job of collecting comix for my daily feeding needs. And it has not been abandoned as the recent INTEL update show.
