Wing IDE ReviewIf you're serious about Python - Version: 2.1, 6/21/2006 04:39PM PST

You need this IDE. It's great. I've been using it now for over a year, and haven't regretted buying it once. The ability to single step through Web CGI scripts is amazing (Pro version only).

This IDE is the standard that all Python IDE's should be based on. There is an active user's mailing list that the developers monitor, and they are very receptive to new ideas, suggestions and even the occasional criticism and complaint.

It's been getting better with each release. If you're serious about Python, get this.

Wing IDE ReviewGreat! - Version: 2.0.3, 4/25/2005 10:59AM PST

WingIDE is an excellent development environment for Python. The editor and debugger are both excellent. The debugger even allows you to debug application written with any GUI toolkit, a rarity in a Python IDE.

Despite being an X11 application, the developers have gone to heroic lengths to make it feel like a normal Mac application (much of which is new in 2.0.3). In addition, the key mappings are easily changed to suit your taste and the application includes some alternative maps, including one for emacs users.

Project management is useful but not yet feature complete. There is no svn integration and project files don't update to match changes on disk.

The application is rock solid and support is truly outstanding. WingIDE is a real bargain (and is free for open source development). I consider it a must-have for any serious Python developer.

Wing IDE ReviewElegant design, excellent facilities, & very flexible -- these guys got it right! - Version: 2.0.1, 12/29/2004 01:41PM PST

I am a computer scientist with over 30 years of experience writing software and training, mentoring, and supporting software developers in advanced technologies. IDE's have always been a particular interest of mine; I've used many and with many languages over many years. Most of them are little more than demoware — awkward to use, ugly, and lacking support for many of a developer's routine actions.

The Wing IDE for Python gets it right. It is well-designed, attractive, flexible, and full-featured. It includes an editor, browsers, inspectors, a debugger, good documentation, etc. — all the facilities a Python developer needs. The arrangement, keybindings, and behavior of these facilities are quite configurable. The X11-based Mac implementation of this cross-platform application is nicely done, fitting comfortably within both the Unix and OS-X sides of the Mac environment.

This is a serious large-scale application whose price is justified by the richness and usability of the facilities it provides. It works well, looks good, and gives the Python developer everything needed to work effectively. Buy it.
