Here's a link to a site that does not force you to register to read the fix : http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=668856 OR In summary ( I cut and paste for times sake) The fix is to update line 293 of DVArchive's main.scpt to specifically pick the older release of Java. I have made this change and posted a new script file at http://homepage.mac.com/swaltner/main.scpt.zip Install is by: - Download the zip file - Extract it to get the modified main.scpt file - Select DVArchive in the Finder and then select "Show Package Contents" - Navigate to the Contents/Resources/Scripts directory - Rename the current main.scpt file to something like oldmain.scpt - Copy this new file into the same place - Close the package window and double-click on the DVArchive One benefit of this change is that you don't need to tweak your Java prefs to try and make it launch the older Java runtime. This updates DVArchive to force it to run the old release of Java.

DVArchive Troubleshooting ReportA less invasive fix. - Version: 3.1, 5/9/2006 05:36PM PST

My previous fix overcompensates by reverting back to Java 1.4.2. For an equally quick but much less invasive solution to using DVArchive while leaving Java 1.5.0 as the default, see: http://www.dvarchive.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2668

DVArchive Usage TipFix for Java 1.5. - Version: 3.1, 4/26/2006 12:32AM PST

Luminous
DVArchive requires Java is set to 1.4.2, even if you ran the upgrade. To tell the operating system to go back to java 1.4.2, follow the following steps.

Open Applications/Terminal

Enter: cd /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions
Enter: ls -l CurrentJDK

The terminal should reply with the following, showing your current Java version is set to 1.5.0:
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 5 May 11 16:36 CurrentJDK -> 1.5.0

Enter: sudo rm CurrentJDK
Enter: sudo ln -s 1.4.2 CurrentJDK

The terminal should reply with the following showing your current java is set back to version 1.4.2:
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 5 May 12 09:47 CurrentJDK -> 1.4.2

Done!

Reversing the process sets you back to CurrentJDK 1.5.0, should you require it.

DVArchive Troubleshooting ReportJava 1.5? - Version: 3.1, 4/21/2006 10:30AM PST

Since upgrading to Java 1.5, I can't get DVArchive to work. I run it, and I get the following error message: "DVArchive v3.1 is only certified for Java v1.4.2. This system is using Java 1.5.0_06 which is not compatible. Please install Java 1.4.2 to use DVArchive v3.1." I even tried going to Applications/Utilities/Java/J2SE 5.0/Java Preferences , set Java Applet Runtime Settings to J2SE 1.4.2, and Java Application Runtime Settings to use J2SE 1.4.2 first. I also tried rebooting. But it still won't run. Is there a way to force DVArchive to use Java 1.4.2?

DVArchive CommentaryDVArchive for Replay and Powerbook - Version: 3.1, 12/29/2005 06:17PM PST

Has anyone managed to get the software to work with just an ethernet connection between the ReplayTV unit and a computer, without router?
After 5 days of faqs, forum reviews, and futile attempts, it appears impossible.

DVArchive Reviewgreat . . . but unstable - Version: 3.1, 8/1/2004 08:10AM PST

Everything it does is great, but updating tv listings is super slow, and it's always locked up in the morning, and locks up several times throughout the day. I even tried turning the serving functionality off to see if it would improve performance and stability, but it made no difference.

However, I couldn't live without it.

This software reminds me of how weak EyeTV's is in comparison.

This is some of the greatest free software ever ... and a perfect example of why open source is a wonderful thing. Every oddity that I experienced with 2.1 is fixed in 3.0 ... most noteably the QT playback problem, and the Replay 5040 crashing when playing back archived shows. Also works over wirelessly no problem, which just impresses me. Thank you so much!!!

Why buy a ReplayTV and not TiVo? This is exactly why!

This is a remarkable piece of software. When used with my ReplayTV, it allows extending storage by transferring recordings to my Mac which are usable through ReplayTV as an additional input source. Additionally, it can serve recordings (stored locally or on the ReplayTV) to a web browser, allow viewing of future scheduled recordings (noting conflicts), and access to the full TV schedule. It is like having a second ReplayTV unit and a lot more. And, the price is right!
