Intego Personal Backup X5 ReviewReliable and regularly updated - Version: 10.5.7, 11/25/2009 11:14PM PST

I am very surprised by the bad comments.
I guess that the user experience varies a lot

Intego never failed on me.
It is very simple to set and to maintain

It works every day, backing up datas from 5 Mac on a central server without a hickup

Wanna have a Mac program that backs up to CD or DVD? Don't use this software.
It cost me a lot of time and a pile of DVD's after which I gave up on this software.
Pity for the money I spent.

Try not to backup to an external disk if it is not Macintosh formatted like certain external servers.
It simply does not support it.

Intego Personal Backup X5 ReviewOne year after, nothing has happened. Does Intego still exist? - Version: 10.5.5, 4/4/2009 08:21AM PST

Personal backup is unable to back-up my MacBook Pro's 160 GB hard disk into a 240 GB SATA external disk. It doesn't have enough space, the poor baby ....

I had the same issue almost a year ago, I wrote a comment here, nothing has happened. I agree 100% with the other fellow users-reviewers: either at Intego they don't read feedback, either they don't care, either they don't know how to fix their "masterworks". Probably all the above.

I have been using Intego Peronal Backup X5, Net Barrier X5, Virus Barrier X5 for some years. I currently am running them on a G4 Laptop and G5 Desktop with OS 10.4.11. I have never had a problem with any of their products and have always had quick response by email if I had a question. My experience is they have been superior. Great interface and updated regularly and easily. Intego produces 5 star products in my opinion. I also have Super Duper which is excellent backup software but I sort of lean to Intego Personal Backup.

After using Intego product for some years now, you know a thing or two:
their software is probably overpriced and - what's worse - Intego is incredibly slow when it comes to releasing updates.

As for Personal Backup: it is just not working. Read the error messages in the logs and you'll see it's due to bad programming. I wonder why they won't fix them. Didn't they run any serious tests prior to releasing this buggy version? Or is it just that I am the only one left who still buys their software (last time really) and because I gave up on their support they haven't figured out yet how bad PBX is.

Intego, people, hello? Wake up! Start testing your own products and listen to feedback. And release troubleshooting updates more regularly and FASTER!

At this time: I WOULDN'T BUY IT again!

why they released this, I don't know (ca-ching, ca-ching $ probably-timing it with Macworld)
it does not work for me in ANY mode. Version 4 for Tiger was great, but upgrading to this useless version is a rip-off.

Having read some other reviews, I am compelled to add my review of three different Intego products I've used for over a year now with utterly no problems whatsoever. I use Personal Backup, Netbarrier and Virusbarrier. Installation and use has been seemless and their tech support has been great. Utterly no problems whatsoever

As far as I am concerned Intego stinks. Worthless products at over-inflated prices. I bought Intego Virus Barrier - great "Gucci" interface! - when first upgrading from OS9 to OSX. Macs prior to OSX did get viruses, that's why I bought it. One year later, without a single OSX virus being intercepted, I declined the (expensive) offer to renew the subscription for virus updates. Many years later, still no Mac OSX viruses other than proof of concept that Apple squashed pretty damned quickly! Then I went (FOOL!) for Net Barrier. Even more "Gucci" interfaces. The product did absoluteley nothing that OSX does not already handle with its own Firewall. All I had to do was enable Firewall in System Prefs. Dohh! Once bitten twice shy. Twice bitten, and Intego can stick this application where the sun does not shine. I will stick with File Synchronization. http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16975
