Product Description:

VirusBarrier X5 is the acclaimed antivirus for Mac that is simple, fast and non-intrusive. VirusBarrier X5 protects Macs from viruses by examining all the files that are read or written, as well as watching for suspicious activity that may be the sign of viruses acting on applications or other files. If the program finds any viruses, it can repair the files immediately, display an alert, or put the files into a quarantine zone. Users can run scans either automatically or manually, using VirusBarrier X5's on-demand scanner to check any files, folders or volumes at any time.

What's new in this version:

VirusBarrier X5 now offers the ability to scan files and applications on the iPhone and iPod touch in search of malware or files that indicate that exploits have compromised the devices. Users connect an iPhone or iPod touch to their Mac, then choose the device and scan it with VirusBarrier X5.

This update also addresses some minor issues and improves overall stability. This update is recommended for all VirusBarrier X5 users.

Intego VirusBarrier X5 ReviewConstant crashing - Version: 10.5.2, 4/4/2008 08:09PM PST

I bought the 10.4 product when Leopard came out. It was benign and quick in scanning. I upgraded 10.5 and all of that changed. Time Machine failed to work until I figured out that the time machine backup must be put in trusted zone. Intego never thought to make that happen automatically. But the constant crashing- sometimes 6 or 7 per day became the norm. I turned off the real time scanner and my problem disappeared. The cure was way worse than the disease of virus risk. The kernel panic rotating ball has not been seen once since I turned off the real time scanner. My advice is not to upgrade to the 10.5.2 version. I told Intego that they should tell Leopard owners to put time machine in trusted zone but they have not gotten around to telling you this on the website.

Intego VirusBarrier X5 Usage TipDisable Real-Time Scanner if You Want to Repair Permissions - Version: 10.5.2, 4/2/2008 01:38AM PST

I have used this product, VirusBarrier for a couple of years. Most of the time I haven't had any complaints. However, after installing X5, I immediately noted that "Repair Permissions" takes a very long time (sometimes several hours). I have confirmed this on two machines running Leopard 10.5.2 (G4 QuickSilver and Intel MB Pro). If you use this software and want to Repair Permissions, I suggest disabling the Real-Time Scanner (in Preferences) before you do. Doing so immediately restored my ability to Repair Permissions in < 6 minutes on both machines.

I suppose as long as Windows users continue to migrate over to the Mac, this company will continue to capitalize on unfounded fears. Until a legitimate virus is actually established on macs I won't be doling out my cash to them.
