UnearthedBookmarks CommentaryI am the… - Version: 1.6, 4/2/2003 08:30AM PST

developer. I have coded the following and am in the process of testing: 1) Double click to launch a url; 2) Do not require http:// on adds. Mass import would be nice, but that would require major work that I do not have the time for (but I will put it on the list). Refresh intervals would be nice as well. However, this does take bandwidth away from other web related things you might be doing (like surfing). The main thought behind the application was to check on those sites that only update infrequently (friends sites, etc.). Checking every few minutes would probably be overkill. Column resizing does work; however, you first need to change the window size for the application to ensure that the available space is larger than the defualt space for the columns (otherwise java won't let you resize). The program may seem slow depending upon your internet connection. The program connects to each URL and gets the following information: last updated timestamp (if available on the server), and the program actually reads through the html code for the page bookmarked to get the title element (it does stop reading the file once it is found). Removing bookmarks is currently slow due to the fact that the program automatically reloads all of the bookmarks over again. I am looking into stopping this auto-refresh. However, it might remain (due to issues with the implementation of the column sorting feature and time involved); since actual practice would be few removals of bookmarks, it might not be a big deal. Most of the feedback I've gotten has been positive (not that I've gotten a lot). As to documentation, the webpage for the application ( http://homepage.mac.com/unearthed/bookmarks/ ) is the documentation (this is a fairly simple app, so nothing specific was included). This program does need to remain open for checking to work. Thanks for your feedback. Look for a new version soon.

Needs one sample website instead of the current bunch of questionably useful ones included. Slow removal of URLs one at a time should be addressed immediately. No included documentation. URLs should not have to be specified in full format - e.g. "http://www.versiontracker.com" rather than "versiontracker.com." Column resizing does not work. No note on whether the program must be left open for checking to work. Needs some work.

single click behavior on bookmarks to a double click. 2. Allow multiple selections for removal without refreshing between each one. 3. An import feature would be sweet, in order to dump entire bookmark/favorites files at once. 4. Should allow for the lack of "http://" and "www" prefaces when adding. 5. A choice of refresh intervals would be a useful addition. A good idea for an application; just needs a little polishing up. Free = nice; thanks.
