Fun little app. I like it better than ntop. The web page control/readout works well. Another arrow in my security quiver.
Useful monitoring tool

There are many options to monitor network traffic but the graphic web interface is very nice. Also the information retained can be helpful. I used darkstat previously in Jaguar/10.2.x and am glad to see that it (at least this version for certain) works in Panther 10.3. Simple build and install works with little fuss via the CLI.
I noticed that my little powerbook creates more dns traffic than all my other running hosts (2 x w2k, 1 x linux, 1 x freebsd). So I captured only traffic from this host limited to dns with ethereal and left with around 14'000 packets in 10 minutes. Most requests are PTR record lookups for random IP addresses.
After deleting darkstat from /Library/StarupItems these requests are gone.
I'm using now ntop which does more then darkstat but also has a much bigger overhead....If someone (darkstat dev) is interrested to get a hold of some trace files approach me on hofstett[at]active.ch
