Product Description:

Deja Vu offers an automatic and seamless new approach to backing up your files. It's a preference pane that shows up in your System Preferences, and it allows you to schedule unattended backups of important folders, or even your entire system.

Deja Vu has been localized for English, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Japanese, Ukrainian, and Traditional Chinese.

  • Backup an unlimited number of folders.
  • Perform your backup manually at the click of a button, or schedule your backups to run whenever it's convenient for you. Backups may be scheduled on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, and will be performed even if you aren't logged in.
  • Save time by backing up only the files that have changed since the last backup.
  • Perform remote backups to WebDAV, AFP, NFS and SMB servers.
  • Synchronize the contents of folders.
  • Accurately clone your OS X system disk, producing a bootable copy.

What's new in this version:

  • Tiger compatibility
  • Added support for versioned backups. (See the new Safety Net tab.) When Safety Net is enabled, changed and/or deleted files will be archived in the Safety Net folder. You can keep as many of these archives as you like, which will allow you to go back and retrieve a document as it existed, say, three days or three weeks ago. The file 'Index.txt' (found in the Safety Net folder), provides a full index of all archived files, and specifies which archive(s) each file may be found in. NOTE: Safety Net currently will not work if the entire startup disk is selected as the source.
  • When performing scheduled backups, Deja Vu can now optionally wait for a period of 5 minutes of user inactivity before beginning the backup. (See the 'Schedules' tab.)
  • Added support for preflight and postflight (before and after backup) scripts. Deja Vu will look inside "/Library/Application Support/Deja Vu" for the following executable scripts and run them if they exist, thus allowing you to perform additional actions as needed before and/or after the backup:
  • Added a check to prevent simultaneous backups.
  • Added Russian localization (thanks to Alexander Tokarev).
  • Updated Dutch, Italian and Japanese localizations.
  • Miscellaneous changes and fixes.
  • Known Issues: Keychain Scripting (accessing the keychain via AppleScript) seems to have become somewhat unreliable in Tiger. As a result, you may find the Auto-Connect feature of Deja Vu to be unreliable. If it refuses to connect to the server, a system restart may solve the problem.

Deja Vu CommentaryCrashes System Preferences - Version: 3.6, 9/2/2009 01:41PM PST

Gary P
I've used Deja Vu happily for years. Installed the 3.6 update on my Snow Leopard system, and it crashes System Preferences, every time I try to select it. This will not do. Crash reports have been sent to Apple:(

Deja Vu CommentaryYes, Deja Vu is still supported - Version: 3.4.2, 8/14/2009 10:46AM PST

propaganda prod
Propaganda Productions would like to make the following two points of clarification:

1. Yes, Deja Vu is still being supported. Our customers themselves will be the ones who decide if and when it will ever be abandoned.

2. Deja Vu serial numbers are sent out automatically, and always have been. Sometimes these messages get flagged as spam, so customers may need to check their spam folders. In any case, if you write to us and tell us you never received your registration email, we will always re-send it to you. Always.

Thank you for your time. That is all.

Deja vu has worked well for me for years. When I ran into a problem recently, I received NO response from developer after 3 email attempts from various addresses.

Buyer beware: this looks like an abandoned product.
