Product Description:

Psync allows you to backup either part or all of your hard drive. You can mirror your selected folder to a FireWire drive, a disk image, or a network drive (this feature doesn't seem to be working right now). In addition, psync will create a bootable drive if you mirror your entire harddrive. PsyncX allows you to schedule regular backups as well. (Note: your computer can't be asleep for this to work properly).

What's new in this version:

  • Fixed a major bug in /usr/local/bin/runpsync
  • Updated the German localization
  • Created a Universal binary
  • Created an installer that works with 10.2, 10.3 and 10.4
  • Updated file locations (Unix files are now back in /usr/local where they belong)
  • The installer cleans up after former installs
  • psync.log files in /var/log are now rotated properly using /etc/weekly.local
  • Fixed a bug that would cause PsyncX to crash on if psync cron lines weren't exactly right
  • Fixed a bug that made all jobs always run as root. Now users have a choice
  • Tweaked the interface to work better
  • Added a Dutch localization

PsyncX Usage TipGetting PsyncX to work in Leopard - Version: 2.2.2, 7/28/2008 10:07AM PST

As many looking here may know, PsyncX does not run correctly in Leopard. However there is a way to get it working again. Check out <http://factoryjoe.pbwiki.com/GettingPsyncXToWorkOnLeopard> for instructions to reinstall specific files and get back to getting your disks backed up :)

Good luck and YMMV!

PsyncX Usage TippsyncX 2.2 is good - Version: 2.2.1, 10/5/2006 12:39AM PST

This is a gui wrapper around psync. When psyncX runs it crashes but the psync commands continue to run. The result is perfect. So even if it scares you with the crash, it actually works and it works well. Also stop moaning about it being donationware. It works.. be happy about that. Backing up can save your skin. And psyncX can save your skin PERIOD

PsyncX ReviewFinally, Just in Time! - Version: 2.2.1, 7/16/2006 10:30PM PST

What just toying around with the source code for PsyncX so I could get it to a Universal binary, but great to see the developer beat me to it, AND make it savvy for 10.2 through 10.4 as well!

If I have only one little quibble, it's the extra authentication necessary when creating backup scripts, and it would be nice to be able to save the configuration to a .plist as well.

Also, it's time you used Steppers instead of those popup buttons to set execution time. The popups are ugly.

OK, so three little quibbles. Nice to see this isn't abandoneware!
