Product Description:

Life2Go syncs a variety of information to your iPod such as news, weather forecasts, movie showtimes, lyrics, text files and much more.

What's new in this version:

  • Weather provided by WeatherBug - WeatherBug is now the official weather provider for Life2Go. By using their API, syncing Weather will be more stable and easier to maintain.
  • Significant changes to the Notes output - There have been significant changes to the way Notes are written to the iPod. First, when the text is over its size for a single note, it is split up by words, not characters like it previously was. This will fix issues where a word would be broken up between notes. Second, "overflow" notes and notes generated from a feed's article in News are placed into a "Pages" folder. This results in a much more organized and neater layout on your iPod. And lastly, with the improved splitting by words and not characters, Life2Go will do its best to squeeze as much text as it can into each note. Previously it wasn't use a good algorithm to address this.
  • Mail uses SQL database for storing messages - When you sync Mail messages to your iPod in Life2Go, it will cache each message when it is synced, so that the next time, the message doesn't have to be pulled from Mail (which is a slow process) and can instead be pulled from Life2Go's internal cache. This results in much faster syncing. However, the way this was being done was causing the app to slow down once this cache because too large. So now the storage has been changed from an XML plist to a SQL database.
  • Syncing improvements - When syncing, the progress bar is more specific, and will change when a task is completed by a plugin. Instead of incrementing only when a plugin is complete.
  • Improved displaying of iPod name - Since Life2Go uses the mounted path of an iPod to get its name, occasionally the mounted path has numbers appended to it, such as "myPod 1", when the name of your iPod is really "myPod". This value isn't seen by the user because the mounted path isn't what the Finder uses. Life2Go now uses the name that is visible in the Finder.

Life2Go CommentaryEmail Kainjow your complaints!!! - Version: 1.6.4, 2/12/2007 01:44PM PST

I recently sent this email to both Kainjow and Prosoft:

"I just wanted to follow what many others have been angry about.

I think it is great you have joined in with Jax development and things are growing for you there.

But for those of us who have purchased and supported Pod2Go, then Life2Go...leaving us with no fully functional version of the application we paid for is unforgivable. Offering a discount on a yet to be released Jax doesn't make that OK.

You left us all with a beta version, that still had issues and that I had to uninstall because of an ongoing bug this app had and have no version to reinstall. So I am now without the program at all.

You give third party Mac developers a bad name and I am mobilizing with other former Life2Go users to spread the word of these practices and BAN Jax when it is released on the matter of principle if nothing else.

It is a completely unreputable way to do business.

The developer who created CoverFlow released an updated and complete version of that software, before it became Apple's. That was the proper way to do it."

I received this response from Prosoft:

"Hello Erick,

I've read your email below and I wanted to address some of your concerns and complaints--

Please note that we will be posting the following on our website shortly:

Attention Life2Go users

Prosoft Engineering, Inc. has obtained non-exclusive rights to integrate some of Life2Go functions into our upcoming Jax® product.

Unfortunately, Prosoft Engineering did not acquire the entire Life2Go application and therefore has no ability nor rights to address any issues or distribute new versions of Life2Go (which is a product from Kainjow LLC).

Jax® is a completely different application and contains many more features than Life2Go.

Prosoft will be offering an exclusive upgrade path for any Life2Go owners when Jax® ships in the next few weeks.

If you are having problems with Life2Go and need technical assistance, please contact kainjow@kainjow.com

That is, Prosoft is licensing some of the code from Kainjow, who makes a product called Life2Go. Prosoft is licensing some of this code as a way to add some of that functionality to our new product, Jax® ---

Kainjow maintains all rights to their code and can indeed still sell and develop their product, Life2Go. However, from their website it looks like Kainjow is discontinuing their support and development of Life2Go (which is out of the hands of Prosoft). I am not sure why Kainjow has decided to abandon that and we have indeed called Kainjow looking for a response. I expect to hear from them shortly on that-- We have expressed the same concerns that you have, in abandoning their customers...

Cheers,

Gordon"

I encourage ALL of you to email Kainjow and complain about these practices! I really appreciate Prosoft's response and hope the best for their app's development, but Kainjow has screwed all of us who purchased and used his application!

Email him and complain to kainjow@kainjow.com

Life2Go CommentaryDiscontinued?????? - Version: 1.6.4, 1/12/2007 03:36PM PST

I just had to find out today when visiting the site and looking for an update to the beta (1.71?) that was posted in the forums some months ago that Life2Go has been discountinued since 1 January 2007. The forums are closed and as a registered user I have not received any email about this decision from the developer. Great! Yet another promising application that goes down the drain before it was able to show its full potential.
