afterhoursBut on the bright side, it forced me to find a modern solution, and with Simon, I've got all the control over my alerts and AP7900 that I need. Server monitoring is back, and with Simon, I feel unleashed from the server room again. The developer has been open and responsive to questions about the product and feature enhancements. Once I outgrow my $60 license, it'll be a no-brainer to move up to Enterprise.
Fantastic software

CNG2But more to the point, it has already saved me money by giving me a notification about a misbehaving server before the problem became a serious issue.
Awesome, awesome, awesome!

Gord LaceyDavid Sinclair, the developer, has implemented a number of changes and variables I've suggested. I'm so impressed that he goes out of his way to please a single user (me) by adding new features and variables. I just explained to him what I wanted to achieve with Simon, asked him if it could be done, and POOF, it was in the next build. He's also extremely quick at replying to emails.
Simon is a very specialized program, and isn't for everybody, but if you have need to monitor a site, or look for changes on some pages, then you have to give Simon a shot. I purchased a Basic License, then upgraded to a Standard License, and I'm seriously considering getting an Enterprise License just to show support for the app, and the developer.
Excellent piece of Software

At present I use it to monitor 16 servers, using several services (ping, http, etc.).
Testing servers via http is essential for me, since most servers would still ping after the webserver has crashed.
The ability to detect changes on the page is fantastic to: it allows me to detect mySQL errors in forums and dynamic sites.
Above all, the support is excellent. I've gotten in touch with Dejal many times with feature requests and (little) bug reports and they have always replied instantly, fix anything that needed fixing and trying to integrate the feature requests into the next release.
Top top it all,my PC friends are jealous when they see it! :-)
I tried it with facebook and it reported a change everytime it connected. There is no doubt that if I analyze the structure of the facebook page and find exactly the places where a change is of interest to me, then I may be able to configure it. But it would be nice if Dejal Simon could do it automatically: what I'm interested in are the things you don't get notified by facebook:
• somebody writes on the wall of a group of your choice
• there are new members in a group of your choice
The developer told me there will be a plug-in for facebook, I hope it will do this.
