CandyBar ReviewBuggy! buggy! buggy! - Version: 3.2.2, 11/14/2009 01:39PM PST

Buggy! buggy! buggy!
.

1. If you trash your icon, let's say from my-icon list (while still keeping it in the trash). The next rebuild will bring the icon back!!

2. You can't empty your trash manually. You must use the file/empty trash apple menu. If you wont do that, the icon will return.

3. ...

I contact the developer a few times and they did respond. But i got the feeling that they are not taking CandBar seriously. Its all about Coda now...

CandyBar ReviewNo Docks - Version: 3.2, 8/30/2009 06:58AM PST

ahabspipe
The ability to change docks seems to have disappeared with this (SL) update. Other than this, it "works" as usual.

I love this application!!! I've been a Panic fan for awhile and they always come out with awesome products. The only complaint I have with this product is the price. Other then that, it's a awesome product!

I could have sworn I've seen Candybar around forever as far as osx goes, don't they have a version that runs for 10.4?

CandyBar ReviewLiteIcon : Check out a free alternative to CandyBar - Version: 3.1.2, 1/20/2008 12:00AM PST

CandyBar is very nice and has a high degree of polish but its the kind of product you use maybe a couple of times a year to set things up once and then forget it. (ie up until Apple regains its sanity and uses an icon collection that is designed by someone with a modicum of aesthetics and design skills. It still stuns me that they shipped Leopard icons which are so badly designed, so flat, so lifeless, and convey such little information... In the words of John Siracusa Apple's gone and made it worse in a way that's obvious in seconds to anyone who's ever given any thought to interface design. It boggles the mind.)

So its pretty clear one needs a product to do the same thing as candy bar. But as many people have noted the price of candy bar seems somewhat excessive. Its a very nice product but its utility is compared to say a text editor, or maybe omni-outliner, etc. Anyway maybe I missed it, but no one seems to have commented below that there is a donation ware alternative LiteIcon. I have nothing to do with the product, I just stumbled across it one day. It seems to do about the same thing as CandyBar.

CandyBar Reviewlove it so far - Version: 3.1.2, 1/11/2008 01:00PM PST

So far, i've only used CB3 in demo mode, but will probably buy it. I hate the default look of Leopard. The folders and dock are just plain ugly IMHO. With CandyBar and a few clicks I was able to make my Leopard experience a more pleasant one. So i'll fork over the dough, as i don't foresee Apple redesigning the OS until 10.6 (Cheetah?).

CandyBar ReviewIf all things could just be free... - Version: 3.1.2, 1/11/2008 07:56AM PST

Having read some of the feedback giving a product a low score because of upgrade price I assume all of them have seen Adobe, MS etc. OK maybe "larger" products but the recent overhaul INCLUDING my pet "hate" the new Dock in Leopard won me totally over. I like the simple way of locating and "collecting" of icons and sets, previously it was quite tricky, I like the preview. CMD + C and CMD + V has always been the alternative but personally I think this one deserves some credit. I have paid more for worse software, games etc so this one is (for me) a no brainer

CandyBar ReviewPoor Upgrade - Version: 3.1.2, 1/11/2008 04:53AM PST

Bloated and expensive - I used to love this app for its simplicity and great price. Now there's an expensive upgrade price for a minor app that I've bought and supported for over 3 years and the trail version caused strange behaviour in desktop icons and was the suspect in system hang ups.

Like other reviewers, I'll go back to cmd+c and cmd+v or wait till Panic stop being greedy and respect previous purchasers and brings out a simple version that does the job without taking up vast amounts of RAM.
