Product Description:

Have you ever plugged in a USB device only to be underwhelmed by the reaction of OS X? It can be very confusing when the system seems to pay no attention to what's just been plugged in - did it even notice?
USB Monitor eliminates the guess work. It pops up a little window and provides the name of the device that's just been plugged in (or unplugged).
The window follows the visual style of the transparent windows for volume and eject.

What's new in this version:

Fixed memory leak.

The readme file says "The best way to configure USB Monitor is to add it to your Login Items in your Login Preferences. That way it will always be running when you're logged in." I've looked for "login preferences" and "login items" in my finder's search window. I can't seem to find either, is there a place I can put the USB Monitor so it's always on when I turn my computer on? Thanks.

See Peripheral Vision by the same company, takes this functionality to the next level for a modest $7, lets you know about ALL your connections and devices, not just usb. This is cool freeware but the other is awesome shareware. Your choice as to what you need
