SETI Menu ReviewNice... BUTE LOADS OF BUGS! - Version: 6.2, 3/30/2004 04:47AM PST

gryphonent
This is quite nice... but has loads of bugs. I've written to the author and haven't received a reply so far, 3 weeks and counting. Notably the program seems to crunch data over and over again without submitting the results to the SETI server.

SETI Menu ReviewWork great - Version: 6.2, 3/20/2004 10:57AM PST

6.2 fixes the multi load...great, 4.5 to 6.2 might have been too big a jump you likely only need to nuke the other config file for it in ~/Library/Preferences. I just wish seti would release a newer version of the CLi, 3.03 has a big memory leak in it.

SETI Menu CommentaryBroke my seti menu - Version: 6.2, 3/20/2004 10:02AM PST

Well I just upgraded from like 4.5 version of seti menu and version 6.2 wont launch. I'm running 10.3.3 and 6.2 just does nothing, I launch it and i get nothing. I even tried redownloading with no change. If your upgrading to 6.2 DONT DELETE YOUR OLD VERSION you might need it.

SETI Menu Commentary2 Clients - Version: 6.1, 2/21/2004 12:03PM PST

The Ox--2008
The program works well, however there are still bugs that need to be adressed -notably, only one client starts up on application launch despite the checkmark in the preferences to start up all "clients".

This is an application for mindless zombies, to help useless "scientists" that should be emptying garbage cans instead of wasting our time, our scientific resources, and our tax dollars.

SETI Menu Troubleshooting ReportI can get it to run once, each time I restore it, but ... - Version: 6.1, 2/16/2004 07:24AM PST

Bud Simrin
Then the menu bar icon disappears and rerunning the program does absolutely nothing. The only way I can find to re-run the program is to delete the prefs and then rerun the app. That brings up the dialog box and also the menu bar icon. My settings were for the prefs to run 2 copies after a delay, and to stop running as soon as I started using the computer again. I disabled the Seti screen saver 1st. Anyone else have this problem?

The 2 clients issue is now fixed. I had to trash my seti menu preferences first though, before I got it to work properly.

Check out in /Library/Logs/ open all the folders in there in contextual way and check the size of each logfile. Last time when I ran this SetiMenu program, I forgot to set my settings in setiathome so it kept giving me errors in the background without warnings. Therefore increasing the size of the logfile dramatically in a few minutes (background errors over and over again). So my HD was suddenly full, and when i checked at one of the logfiles there, I saw one with 10 gig. Just chuck 'em out...and make sure next time ur seti@home command line runs first in terminal before you use it in conjunction with SetiMenu. If it is not in /Library/Logs/ then it is probably in ~/Library/Logs/. I hope this works for those who didn't know where the space go and how to go of fixing it. ps: the system won't let you delete the file since it is in use, so just restart and delete it that way. After i fixed this problem i found SETI Menu to be a great little piece of application...
