Product Description:

PTMac is a front end for creating panoramas using the powerful Panorama Tools package. The user is taken through the panorama creation process one step at a time with a logical interface. Using PTMac, the user has total control over the process giving the most accurate results available. Users can make 360 x 180 degree panoramas, cylindrical and rectilinear panoramas from nearly any lens type including fisheye. Panoramas can be created from single or multiple rows of images. Supported input image formats include TIFF, PICT, JPEG and PNG. The finished panorama can be saved in any of the input file types plus Quicktime cylindrical and cubic, multi layer Photoshop (one layer per input image) for easy editing in Photoshop and multi-image masked TIFF for editing in MacGimp. Color and brightness differences between the images can be automatically minimized with the check of a box as well as lens distortions common in wide angle lenses. Quicktime cubic and cylindrical panoramas can also be created with PTMac.

What's new in this version:

  • Bugfix: Double clicking on the warped image thumbnail to open the Panorama Editor no longer re-arranges the images.
  • Bugfix: The "Save" option is enabled after updating the panorama using the numerical transform function and deleting control points via the control points table.

PTMac ReviewRequires some learning, but then you will get perfect panoramas - Version: 4.1, 4/11/2008 12:51AM PST

This is not the kind of software you can use by simply browsing the menus. But if you make the small effort to read the (very detailed) help and follow the steps, you will achieve seamless panorama.
You may also watch the tutorial available at http://www.kekus.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1212
The developer is very helpful and responsive, either by e-mail or through the forum: I got a quick and detailed reply when I (rarely) was in trouble.

I'm serious about stitching programs, and I've wished so much to find a good image stitching program on the Mac. PTMac is clumsy, has a poor interface, and is completely unintuitive. I've spent hours trying to figure out the logic of each adjustment. With Parallels, we have more options. I recommend a program called "Image Assembler" running under Parallels in Windows. It stitches not only panoramas, but also flat scans (which is important for my work). It's much more intuitive. I have pleaded with them to port their program to OSX. Until they see the light, it's virtualization for me.
