mark_ringenoldus: That's simply *wrong*. The mouse cursor has a shadow when the card supports cursor shadows. It supports Quartz Extreme when the chipset / bus / video memory meet the requirements. Yes, these two often come together on modern cards. No, it is not *always* the case, so the mouse shadow is not a reliable indicator!

because when you enable both screens, the video memory gets split in half. Since half of 16 MB is 8 MB, and the (default) minimum for QE is 16 MB, neither screen will get acceleration. Your friend should check out PCI Extreme at http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16006 You should be able to use this to lower the default amount of memory to 8 MB instead of 16 MB. Both screens will then be accelerated. Hope this helps...

is Versiontracker's. On the developer's site one reads: "This is a small Cocoa app that checks if the machine is using Quartz Extreme (OpenGL acceleration for Quartz) in Mac OS X 10.2." This is pretty clear, isn't it?

me my PowerBook G4 667 MHz supports QE with the internal LCD or when video mirroring is on, but not with monitor spanning. Thanks!

A friend with 16MB / Radeon video hardware on a Titanium PowerBook who uses a second external screen regularly just informed me that the program indicates active acceleration with just the built-in screen but no acceleration on both screens when the second one is active. And the mouse pointer shadow is there *all the time*.
Does what it…

the description does not say that it checks for compatability, but the title does.... Quartz Extreme Check - 1.1 Check if video card supports Quartz Extreme Download Now (File Size: 23k) Then, if you read the description...... Product Description: This small Cocoa app checks and displays if Quartz Extreme acceleration is active on a machine. People read things fast, especially with the 10.2 excitement for some out there. But we all know how aggrevating it is when tech docs haven't been QA'd.
What are you checking to see if Quartz is enabled?
I have a headless system (no monitor) that is not loading Quartz Extreme only when the monitor is not attached. I've been trying to figure out how to force the computer to load quartz, but can't seem to find it. Please tell me theres a .plist file somewhere I can toggle to force the system to load it up.
PS. Thanks for all the software.
