Product Description:

If you're a graphic designer for the web or print, or even just a font-addict, Font Pilot will save you much of the confusion and frustration when it comes to managing your font collection.

Easily browse (by visual preview) all of your installed fonts at a glance, or check out an entire character map! Print the list as you see it on screen or save it to PDF to send to a friend or co-worker. Compile a database of your entire font collection for easy reference.

However, Font Pilot isn't simply a font viewer. Preview fonts which are not installed, add/remove fonts, reveal fonts files in the Finder by their displayed font name, check for duplicate fonts, organize your fonts into easy to manage categories, and even synchronize two different font folders!

What's new in this version:

  • New Feature: Fonts which are not QuickDraw compatible now highlight in red in the main list as they may not display properly in Font Pilot.
  • New Feature: Now displays a loading bar when the program starts, so it doesn't look likeit's stalled if you have a ton of fonts!
  • New Feature: Total Font count now also displays in the title-bar.
  • New Feature: Added Metrics button to the main font window. This is used to tell you about fonts specific heights, etc.
  • New Feature: QuickDrawName now displays in the about info window.
  • New Feature: Ignored fonts with an invalid FSSpec are now ignored silently instead of annoying the user.
  • Bug Fix: Issue regarding not all fonts loading corrected.
  • Bug Fix: Fixed bug regarding Japanese encoding for English fonts.

Font Pilot CommentaryFont Book - Version: 2.4.2, 1/29/2009 12:29AM PST

Font Book, in OS X, can only preview one font at a time. Oh sure, you can click on any number of font files at the same time, but you then get a cascade of windows. Doable, but tedious to manage. Font Pilot enables you to examine whole folders of fonts at one time - though at the moment it's not working for me, which is another issue. But, when it works, it offers features not found in Font Book. Whether those features are worth $15.95 is a matter of individual preference.

$16 for something that is already part of Mac OS X. What's up with that?

Suitcase, Font Agent, Font Explorer and even Font Book will show you what fonts are not installed and what they look like. I certainly hope no one pays for this add on junk
