This is the tool that you need. I have bough a new Mac, and wanted to transfer the music files of my ipod. This tool just did the trick and it is for free.
I just does the job, and with the duplicate protection, it skips the ones you already transferred manually.

I am running the latest release of 10.4 (Tiger) on an iMac G5 and just got my iPod touch today. Unfortunately, this software does not work with it. No iPods show up when I go to import music.
I want a refund on the last 10 minutes. :-/

I only see the movies on my iPod, NO photos (I don't even see music). Maybe it is because I have 10.5.

Got this to unload my son's iPod's songs, as his PowerBook was recently stolen, and his iPod was having some HD trouble (he'd given it up for dead, impetuous teenager, and left it with me as he drove off to college). iPod Viewer worked great. At one point the iPod HD stalled (clickity-clackty), but iPod Viewer waited patiently. I whacked the iPod on its side old school style, HD settled down and iPod Viewer continued its chore and the songs copied to my Mac. Very nice.
Yeah, the text of song titles overlay during import, but it's not an inconvenience. This clean little app gets the job done!

This app does the job! I've been using it for 6 months with no problems. Only thing is that there is sometimes a graphical glitch when the program is reading file names off the iPod. Otherwise: good stuff! Highly recommendable
