Plain Text Editor CommentaryWithout *trying* to be rude... - Version: 3.2, 8/23/2007 12:57AM PST

When an application has to mention "you can print your documents", and "you can check spelling", and so forth it's just got to be a bad sign. What next? "You can use *any* of your digits to type with?" Or perhaps, as per the screenshot: "you can also make the background a hideous pink so that the html text in there (without any syntax highlighting) looks disgusting".

Yeesh... as mentioned above, if you want a cheap text editor go for the free TextWrangler, which is several orders of magnitude more useful than this application. If you're prepared to shell out (sorry, bad joke) for a text editor than give TextMate a try for a month. It costs 39 Euros after that, but it's going to look pretty good against 15 Euros (no, I'm not joking) for 'Plain Text Editor'. If you think TextWrangler looks too complex for your usage than I can only plead with you to download "Tex-edit Plus" instead: it's cheaper and, well, let's just say "in a different league" to PTE.

In summary, this is much, much closer to Alpha than it is to Omega...

This is just what it says, a plain text editor, and I like it. This is nice when you're worried that apps are going to add junk to your text....like the old SimpleText.

Save yourself time and effort. Download the fantastic (and free!) TextWranger from BareBones. Avoid this. It's been shown to scare small children and rats in labratory tests.

I am happy to report that I have now thrown away my dreaded copy of MSW, and emptied the trash. MSW always gave me font problems anyway, took too long to load and was so bloated for what it was. Plain Text Editor is pretty much the only text editor I can imagine ever needing. Thanks guys. I am so grateful, I am wordless.

Plain Text Editor ReviewI find it useful - Version: 2.2, 12/11/2005 10:08AM PST

After switching from windows one thing I missed was the windows text edit that does basic non-formated edit and saves to original format. Apple TextEdit maintains formatting and hyperlinks and wants to save to rtf.
So I find Plain text edit useful when I want to quick edit html or plain old text. Will see if vers 2.4 is much different.

Plain Text Editor ReviewNot worth trying - Version: 1.7, 3/6/2004 12:32PM PST

Various other free text editing applications (such as TextEdit and BBEdit Lite) have more features and are easier to use than this $10 shareware app. It's not immediately clear why the author even wrote it, nor why anyone would choose to use it.

Plain Text Editor ReviewGod, this is not funny anymore. - Version: 1.7, 2/29/2004 11:14PM PST

He's a shill for AlphaOmega. I bet he's actually the author.

Here's the thing. I *am* a serious writer. I would never touch this app except to drag it into my trash.

No one needs this app. TextEdit is a fantastic little app and most useful for everything anyone could ever hope to need a text viewer for. AlphaOmega makes garbage and glut that unfairly pollutes VT and makes it harder for me to find useful updates. I wish their useless products would be blacklisted. So even suggest it could supplant Word is laughable.

Moreover, if your text editor's code is in such flux that it needs to "support" this "Extended Software Updater" you're in serious trouble. The funniest thing is that they want ten dollars for this piece of crap.

VT, please delete the fake reviews of this app.
