Product Description:

netTunes is the ultimate iTunes remote control solution for networked users.
Huh?
Yeah, OK, that's a mouthful. Here's the deal: If you've got multiple Macs, and you're using one to play music with iTunes, netTunes is for you.

netTunes lets you control iTunes running on one Macintosh from another, using iTunes' native interface. You get the same main window, the same playlists, the same search capabilities -- everything!

This is incredibly handy for users who are using iTunes to, for example, feed an audio system: you no longer have to walk over there to select your music. Nor do you have to put up with a semi-functional "remote control" program to change songs or -- even worse -- find songs. With netTunes, you simply connect to the server, and take complete control of iTunes from the comfort of your current computer. It's that easy!

What does it look like?

Well, it looks like...iTunes! And that's because it is! netTunes is actually remoting the entire iTunes interface from one computer to another, giving you the same user experience you'd have if you were sitting in front of the "real" iTunes. Just click and type!

But that's not all: netTunes can do some things iTunes can't. You can actually scale the iTunes window and mini-Window to a size of your choosing, and still be able to interact with them normally. So, the windows can be extremely small and still be fully clickable!

netTunes also fully supports OS X transparency, and allows you to set how opaque the netTunes window is when it's active and inactive.

What's new in this version:

  • Direct controls now work when screen saver is active. Changes in the Panther screen saver made netTunes' "direct controls" not work. This has been fixed.
  • Windows badged for Expose. When using Expose to show all windows on the system, the remote windows were not titled, and thus were difficult to identify. We now badge the window with "netTunes - (server name)".
  • Enhanced controls. netTunes' direct controls now work better then ever.
  • Better Jaguar/Panther support. We're now making better use of "native" Jaguar and Panther capabilities.
  • >Performance improvements. As usual, we've improved performance in various situations.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2 or higher
  • iTunes 2.x or higher

This is a very simple to install and use app. Along the lines of SuperDuper - simple and bullet proof.

Read the FAQ on Shirtpocket's discussion page if you're using a firewall and get a spinning ball -- simple fix.

If you want to remotely control iTunes, this is the best I've seen. I've used a few programs on a Palm and a Windows Mobile cell phone and both were buggy and frustrating to install and use. After two days of using netTunes, its seamless, responds quickly and completely stable.

Good, the Squeezebox goes in the trash where it should have gone years ago.

This is the worst shareware I have ever tried, if you do not purchase the software it will screw up your connection with Airport Express. Do not download unless you plan to buy. The default shuts off your connection every 30 minutes (so it says) it now turns off my connection every 5 minutes. I had to uninstall and then reboot (believe it or not) for my itunes to work again with my airport express.

Very angry at this developer.

Ingenious little solution to controlling an iTunes on one computer via any other computer on the network. I've been using it for two years, and it really works well for me. My setup is an iMac that holds the music library, which I control, via airport, from my laptop across the room. I use it all the time, and it's been steady and reliable for me. Developer replies to inquires, including tips to configure the firewall settings to make it work (an issue that wasn't covered well in the documentation).
