Product Description:

The lickable part of the blowfish, Fugu is a native Mac OS X Cocoa GUI wrapper for OpenSSH's commandline sftp client. SFTP is a secure replacement for FTP: the session is encrypted via ssh, so nothing--most importantly passwords--is sent in the clear.

Fugu supports drag and drop uploads and downloads, and features a console that allows the user to interact directly with the commandline interface of sftp should he or she choose. Additionally, Fugu contains support for directory upload, which is not natively supported in OpenSSH's sftp. Fugu supports directory download via scp. If you try to download a directory with sftp, Fugu will notify you that OpenSSH's sftp client cannot download directories, and will offer to do it with scp. Recursive directory deletion is not yet supported.

What's new in this version:

  • Improved type-ahead find, behaving more like the Finder.
  • Added ability to rename files and folders.
  • Fixed issue in which no files or folders would be displayed when connecting to a VShell server's root directory.
  • Fixed a few interface problems; added constraints to the size of the SFTP panes.
  • Added nicknames for Favorites in preferences window.
  • Improved documentation.
  • Slightly improved handling of character encodings.
  • If available, use nicknames in Favorites pop-up button.
  • Using sheets instead of modal windows when possible.
  • Don't quit program when last window is closed.
  • Using NSCell subclass instead of NSBrowserCell, which was causing some graphic glitches.
  • Improved error reporting when something goes wrong trying to use the keychain.
  • If the host to which we're trying to connect doesn't exist, let the user know.
  • MD5 Checksum: accb6634420091c4621e34123b86d061

I have used this exactly twice since downloading, but I am completely happy with it so far. Fingers crossed that it will continue to meet my needs. Kudos for such excellent freeware. You pay a lot of $ for worse products.

Though this is a very good SFTP client, version 1.2.0 is NOT Universal Binary as the developer has indicated here at VersionTracker. It is PowerPC-only and thus runs under Rosetta emulation on Intel-based Macs.
