Canon Remote Capture ReviewNO FOCUS!!! - Version: 2.7.4.23, 1/7/2004 10:41AM PST

Greg Pare
I hate people who complain about free software, but considering it came as a package with my G3 camera (and was a selling point) I feel I have right to complain.

I bought a G3 to use with RemoteCapture, only to find that RemoteCapture will only auto-focus on the center of the image --

THERE IS NO WAY TO FOCUS MANUALLY OR AUTO-FOCUS OFF-CENTER USING THIS SOFTWARE.

I would have given the software 5 stars, but considering it won't focus (and all attempts to correspond with their tech-support have led to generic "sorry for your confusion" replies), I give it 1 star.

The lack of control for such a basic function of the camera is a complete oversight on Canon's part, and a real bummer.

Thanks!

Canon Remote Capture ReviewGerman localisation - Version: 2.7.4.23, 12/13/2003 06:07AM PST

aaa eee ff
The installer copies some language files but the app is only in english. I can live with it because the german translation of the last version was pathetic. Canon cameras and printers are great - but their software is ridicoulos...

Canon Remote Capture CommentaryWorks on Kiss Digital/Rebel - Version: 2.7.4.23, 12/12/2003 10:25PM PST

I just installed it and tried it with a 300D Kiss Digital/Rebel. (Kiss Digital is the Japanese name.) It recognized it immediately without my intervention. I took a few pictures without incident. A couple of times it came with an error saying the camera refused to take the picture. When I checked the viewfinder I saw that it was pointed at a blank wall in a rather dimly lit room so it wouldn't focus. I set it to manual focus and it was fine.
