Product Description:
- iData 3 is an easy-to-use database application for storing text and graphics.
- Provides several ways to retrieve and view your information.
- Is very flexible and user-configurable.
- Stores data in either freeform or user-defined field-based formats.
- Can "grab" and store Web page addresses and titles, along with copied Web page content.
- Can link to files on disk. Click a file link to open a file in its default application.
- Can recognize phone numbers and dial the phone using either a modem connection or dial tones from your Mac's speakers.
- Imports e-mail, bookmarks, and other types of files.
- Prints labels and envelopes--batch or single. Includes template layout and design tools.
- Includes two System Services: Grab URL and Selection, and Send Selection to iData.
- Will run for 30-days without a serial number.
What's new in this version:
Changes:
- The Create New Field w/Content... (in the Fields submenu, under the Edit menu) dialog no longer retains values from previous uses during a single iData 3 session.
- When the Test Addresses button in a template window is clicked, iData 3 now takes changes in the records selection into account when redisplaying the template.
- Added a Text Encoding option to the dialog for Tab-delimited File... export (in the Export As submenu, under the File menu). Select UTF-8 when exporting a datafile to be imported into the Apple Address Book under OS 10.4.x (Tiger). Select UTF-16 (the default option) for most other purposes.
- Fixed a bug where Create New Field w/Content... could create one record too few when applied to a new datafile with only one empty record.
- Fixed a bug in the routine to automatically add a fill a field with sequential numbers failed to work properly if the first number added in the Create New Field w/Content... routine was greater than 1.
- Fixed a Tiger-only bug that made using the Save As... routine on a synchronized datafile, and immediately making and saving changes to the new datafile, a little clunky.

Printing Envelopes Still Needs Fixing - Version: 3.1.5, 10/10/2009 05:49AM PST

This update (3.1.5) is supposed to fix printing issues with Snow Leopard but I find its made things worse. I wish they would test this software before distributing it to the public.

For twenty years, since I first bought QuickDex — as it was then called — this small program has been one of my most valuable. I use the freeform format to store any bit of information I may want to recall ... names, addresses, contact info, bookmarks, code snippits, recipes, lists ....anything and everything. And a simple keyword will bring it to the top... instantly. I couldn't do without it.
BTW, yesterday, I reported a small bug in the latest version (3.1.2); today, it was fixed (v.3.1.3). How's that for service?

I've been a happy user of iData 3 since this indispensable product was called "Quick Dex". It's in my Startup Items and always ready to go when I sit down to work. I currently have over 5,000 "Freeform" records, many with embedded images.
Part of the beauty of iData 3 are the nearly-instantaneous search and sorting functions.
Recently I had a badly corrupted ID3 file due, I believe, to a USB hardware system crash that brought down my computer before I could save iData 3 changes. Robin Casady and Mike Wright of iData3.com stepped to the fore and recovered 99.9 percent of my file.
Another developer might have said - with some justification - "You have a backup file, don't you: Just use that." (I DID have a backup file; let's just say that it was a few days old.)
Mike and Robin provide a world-class product with world-class support and I'm always happy to pay the price for major version upgrades; it's always a reasonable amount for current iData 3 owners.
Highly recommended!
