Product Description:

Eye TV Digital Video Recorder frees you from TV schedules. Find and track all the programming you want to see, and watch it whenever you want to. Pause live television. Skip commercials. Record your favorite shows permanently using your CD burner. EyeTV will change the way you watch television.

What's new in this version:

  • EyeTV 200, Plextor ConvertX: MPEG-4 Hardware Encoding

EyeTV 1.7 enables MPEG-4 hardware encoding with EyeTV 200 and the Plextor ConvertX.

MPEG-4 is a more advanced encoding format than MPEG-2, which enables higher picture quality at the same video bit rate, or lower disk space usage at the same picture quality. However, MPEG-4 content must be re-encoded to make DVDs or Video CDs, which can be time-consuming.

The Device Preferences for EyeTV 200 and the Plextor ConvertX now contain three pre-defined MPEG-4 quality settings:
    • MPEG-4 Long Play: 484 MB per hour. Video: 352x240 (NTSC), 352x288 (PAL)
    • MPEG-4 Standard: 940 MB per hour. Video: 720x480 (NTSC), 720x576 (PAL)
    • MPEG-4 Best: 1.4 GB per hour. Video: 720x480 (NTSC), 720x576 (PAL)
In addition to these preset quality settings, the full range of MPEG-4 capture settings is available in the Custom Settings dialog. For best playback compatibility and performance, EyeTV uses its own AVI file format for exporting MPEG-4 recordings. To export to this format, choose "MPEG-4 AVI in the export dialog box. For playback in QuickTime Player, EyeTV 1.7 installs a special EyeTV MPEG Support Component into the /Library/QuickTime folder when it is first opened.
  • DivX Export

All EyeTV recordings can be exported to any QuickTime compatible format. In EyeTV 1.7, if the DivX QuickTime component is installed, a new export option for the DivX AVI file format is available.
  • EyeTV 200/300/310/400/410/610: Subtitling support

For all EyeTV models that support the PAL broadcast standard, EyeTV 1.7 adds subtitling support via Teletext pages. To access subtitles, select Teletext from the View menu and use the numbers on the keyboard or the mouse to navigate to the Teletext page that contains the subtitles for the current channel. You can also invoke the Teletext display by using the keys on the hardware remote control that accompanied the EyeTV hardware.
  • EyeTV 500: Clear QAM support

After updating the EyeTV 500 firmware, the tuner module in EyeTV 500 is now capable of receiving unencrypted digital cable ("Clear QAM) in addition to off-the-air ATSC HDTV and SDTV broadcasts. Not all cable providers may support Clear QAM, and not all cable providers provide unencrypted content even if they support QAM.

Operating System Requirements:

Oh Elgato I do love your product. It is the best way to get TV into my Mac. However I do wish you would included a Cable Card slot into your devices. I know most US cable companies have to sell you a cable card if requested (they don't advertise this though).

3.2.1 still not 64-bit!
Do developers only wait until an OS is out to update their apps, 10.6 has been available for developer testing for a LONG time!
