Product Description:

"Yum!" is a stand-alone recipe collection application with a very small RAM and HD footprint, featuring:
  • Indexing by category - each recipe can belong to any number of user-defined categories.
  • Several printing options - 1 recipe, all recipes, selected recipes, all recipes in selected category, found recipes. Let's face it, who can afford to have the computer itself in the kitchen and operate it with flour and eggs all over their hands?
  • Recipe text can be fully formatted including fonts, styles, paragraph settings, and even graphics (copy and paste, or drag and drop) so that pictures of your recipes can be included anywhere within the recipe text.
  • Recipes can be imported from MasterCook export files, or from other Yum! files, and can be exported to Yum! files or to text files.
  • Recipe email function (uses your default email application)

What's new in this version:

  • Highlighting of Categories for the selected Recipe is now more efficient for collections with large numbers of recipes
  • Updated French localisation.
  • "&" "<" and ">" characters in text (XML-ish) exports now uses the correct escape character.
  • "{}" no longer appended to Serves (MAKES) in viewer window if the value includes non-numeric text.
  • Opening a recipe editor without making any changes no longer marks the document as "dirty" (requiring a save).
  • Corrected spelling of several items in the default ingredients list in preferences (users of previous versions will have to revert to defaults or correct manually to see the changes).
  • Unit abbreviations are no longer displayed as plurals (whole unit titles are still displayed as plurals where provided if amount is greater than 1).
  • If a recipe has been edited, the recipe viewer is now updated when the editor is closed or when the collection is saved.
  • Categories drawer in editor window is now opened by default (but remembers last used state).
  • Categories list removed from editor.

Yum! ReviewUniquely simple entry - Version: 3.0.1, 12/8/2008 02:41PM PST

I was just evaluating a couple recipe managers and Yum won hands down.

Yum just let me paste the whole text all in one go and separated everything out into measurement, unit and ingredient. Every other app I tried required me to enter all the ingredients one by one. For some I even had to do the measurements, units and ingredient in their own fields.

If you ever copy whole recipes then there is no other recipe manager coming even close.

Two small wishes: a) picture, b) category (in particular smart categories)

Yum! CommentaryDonation registration not working with Commercial upgrade - Version: 3.0.1, 12/7/2008 06:19AM PST

Previous versions of Yum were donationware (not freeware as some have said), and probably few sent in donations. However for those of us who did donate, our previous rego information is not working with the updated version and I'm not seeing any upgrade option on pricing. Will there be or do we stick with version 2.7.3?

This is an excellent piece of software. The GUI is slick and is very intuitive. If you're like me and cut and paste recipes from the internet then this is the software to store them in. It places the quantities, ingredients, and cooking method in discreet areas. It can print or email a shopping list and can save to an iPod or save as plain text. Best of all you can scale the recipe to serve 2 or a banquet. One thing I would like to see in a future upgrade is a place for a picture. Note: There is a sampler Yum cookbook that comes with the download and does have a few recipes that have metric measurements but most are not. This software is for your recipes and will have misspelled words if you misspell them and the measurements are the measurements you enter. I give Yum a big thumbs up!
