Weak MPEG-2 Playback engine? - Version: 7.0, 9/2/2007 05:27PM PST

I use Elgato EyeTV to export MPEG-2 files and burn them but all of a sudden, video and audio from exported MPEG-2 movies just disappear after about 54 minutes of playing and after a while, the video and audio come back. I thought there was a problem in the exporting but in VLC Player, the files play back fine and I discovered that Quicktime has a poor MPEG-2 Playback engine.

Quicktime 7, when installed on a system with Pro Tools (mine was version 6.4.1) causes a conflict that doesn't allow Qucktime 7 or iTunes to run anymore. Now I'm in trouble because I have to uninstall everything and find a version of Quicktime 6 somewhere so I can fix the problem. I also lost my Quicktime Pro key because of the upgrade. Thanks a lot Apple, I own two macs and I'm a big fan, but what a horrible letdown.
rebuy to get v. 7.0? - Version: 7.0, 4/30/2005 04:46AM PST

I purchased the QT 6 MPEG-2 Playback component awhile back. I redownloaded it from the Apple Store (for free) to obtain the version that works with QT 6.4 or later when that became available in October 2003. VersionTracker claims that a version 6.5 was released on 5/11/04 and that a version 7.0 has now been released. However, if I pull down my previous purchase again, I'm still getting a package identical to the one I pulled down in October 2003. Do you need to repurchase to get version 7.0? The way I read MPEG-2 Playback FAQ, I think I'm probably getting the latest available when I redownload. But VT's claims that two versions exist that are later than the one I have make me wonder.

You do NOT need an updated component for QT7 if you bought this already - Version: 7.0, 4/29/2005 02:07PM PST

version 7 not available - Version: 7.0, 4/29/2005 10:16AM PST

The editor seems to be wrong about the availability of version 7 of the component for those who've already bought it. Software Update does not see an update for the component, and redownloading from the Apple store still gives version 6.5 (I assume — I can't find an actual version number anywhere).

I don't find a form at the download link, only an information page and a link to the Apple store if I want to purchase it. I alrady have the playback componant for Quicktime 6 and am not sure what this version 7 adds to it. I am assuming that Quicktime 7 will require another version yet again.

Do we need to purchase a new version if we install QuickTime 7 or will the old version work?
