Product Description:

Alphatk is a text editor. It's most useful for programmers, those writing a lot of TeX or LaTeX documents, and for editing of HTML source files. It has very rich features to aid in writing and editing files of those document types. The programming languages most strongly supported are C, C++, Java, Tcl, Perl, Matlab, in addition to LaTeX and CSS/HTML. Most other common languages (around 50!) are also supported, although perhaps not with quite such a rich feature set. As well as being useful for creating and editing such documents, Alphatk provides a host of facilities for communicating with compilers, diff, patch, version control systems etc. See the web-pages for more information: http://www.purl.org/net/alphatk

Please report bugs/problems to http://www.maths.mq.edu.au/~steffen/bugzilla/.

What's new in this version:

  • improved macro recording, and binding reporting (thanks Craig).
  • when only status window is present on MacOS X, don't use sheets for dialogs.
  • fix to 'close' so doesn't quit Alphatk when there are no windows.
  • added preliminary scaling support for higher-resolution displays (e.g. 120dpi)
  • made proper distinction between user-applied colours (text::color) and syntax-colouring.
  • better font style support added to Alphatk.
  • fix to binding specification overlaps between Bind and Menu.
  • some refactoring of syntax-colouring and other window-view code so they do not depend on implementation details of the text widget.
  • fix to potential global variable pollution caused by flag-menus
  • better font, tab handling, particularly with split windows.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Alphatk Commentary≠ alphax? - Version: 8.3.3, 10/16/2007 09:17AM PST

man de hu
I fail to see the difference between Alphatk and AlphaX (that I paid for long, long ago) -- must be real thick today ;-)

Alphatk CommentaryI don't see the slowness - Version: 8.3fc11, 8/29/2004 06:48AM PST

Hangnail
Seems pretty peppy to me (1.3 gig powerbook 12 in). Took a large text file selected all the text and began a full paste frenzy till the file got pretty big. Didn't notice any appreciable slowdown so I don't get the commentary on this editor. I'll hold off reviewing it till I play more thought.

One thing to notice. The first time you run it (or an upgrade version) it seems to index all of its internal files. There are a LOT of them so it takes a minute or two for it to finish. after this thought it starts pretty quick. If you want power and don't want to fork big bucks for bbedit full version then you might want to give this a try.
