I don't see the slowness - Version: 8.3fc11, 8/29/2004 06:48AM PST

Seems pretty peppy to me (1.3 gig powerbook 12 in). Took a large text file selected all the text and began a full paste frenzy till the file got pretty big. Didn't notice any appreciable slowdown so I don't get the commentary on this editor. I'll hold off reviewing it till I play more thought.
One thing to notice. The first time you run it (or an upgrade version) it seems to index all of its internal files. There are a LOT of them so it takes a minute or two for it to finish. after this thought it starts pretty quick. If you want power and don't want to fork big bucks for bbedit full version then you might want to give this a try.

As far as I can determine, the latest dmg version is still 8.3d6. Is 8.3b3 (or 8.3b?) available in a disk image for Mac? Or will the source build the Mac apps (a la MacPython)?

This is a great text processor for writing large documents. Yes, its a bit slow (alpha 7 on os9 was snappier) but the integration features and ease with which it handles a large number of files (in my case a book's worth) make it indispensible.

This is actually a great idea but unfortunately misses the mark. I suspect it is written in Java the 3-toed sloth of programming languages.
Can't you have the different language features sets remain outside the program and have the user plug-in the one they want?

what can you expect from a code that is 11mb in size. what about trashing this dinosaur and starting over again - or what about just a plug in for bbedit

Well, i dislike this program. I am sure it has some usefulness, which i couldn't find. I like the text editor (but it's pretty slow, especially when you're pasting in more than 50 characters at once)
I couldnt find anything even relating to perl or python, or selecting which environment you want to program in.
Overall, SLOWNESS. I managed to write this review in the time it took it to load! And the configuration is even SLOWER. I didn't even understand half those things. You must appeal to the common user, not everyone is a programmer.
(Thank goodness it quits fairly fast)

your keyboard in the international preferences dialog (use the "Config -> Preferences -> System Preferences -> International" menu item) to ensure the menus contain key-bindings suitable for your keyboard." UTF 8 + UTF 16 BE are supported following my tests : just set the encoding of your choice within the appropriate local menu located on Alphatk status bar. Unicode encodings are the last from this (long, rich) menu. 4 stars because I didn't rate this product since a long long time and because the new version is fixing some of previously reported bugs very efficiently. The main problems remaining : tear off menu, a too overload gui (mainly for the various preferences windows), and some too scattered preferences (a single window and menu would be welcome to manage all the preferences).

description is much better ! Looking at your development speed your product will be soon ready I guess. Such gui issues (very logical considering your cross-platforms approach) shouldn't be too difficult to solve for you. I don't have enough time to make serious beta testing of any app actually. Sorry. But if I can find some, it will probably be for Alphatk.
WTF is going on here???
