DYMO LabelWriter ReviewWorthless piece of software!!! - Version: 7.7.1, 2/14/2008 12:00AM PST

I tried to install it on a Mac Pro running Leopard 10.5.2. I've connected my Dymo LabelWriter Turbo via USB after the installation where completed (when it told me to connect it!) but when I fire up the software it tells me this - "Application could not find supported printers. Please re-install your printer driver." I have tried that a couple of times and I know that the system can see the printer through System Profiler but it still doesn't work.

WHAT A WORTHLESS PIECE OF SOFTWARE!!!

DYMO LabelWriter ReviewNeed to follow instructions for printer hook up - Version: 7.7.1, 2/14/2008 12:00AM PST

I also had trouble with it finding the printer, until I read and followed the fine print in the readme the installer displays. The printer must be unconnected when you start and connected when prompted.

(Note to developers: you can readily scan the devices on the USB bus for items matching a list of vendor and product ids, thereby finding all currently installed printers of the types you support, rather than this kludge)

The program works OK and with one of these printers provides a much needed office function. Though I think the UI is very much a Mac port of a Windoz program and it shows!

DYMO LabelWriter Troubleshooting ReportFailed Install - Version: 7.7.1, 12/16/2007 04:44PM PST

I am running an iMac G5 with multiple accounts and rapid switching turned on. I have removed all the old software for Dymo, removed the printer from the printer list in the system preferences, removed the printer driver from the library folder and made sure this was done in all accounts. I then restarted, disconnected the printer, did the install and then connected the printer when told to, and made sure it was added to the printer list in the preferences window and still get driver not installed message when I open the Dymo software. Even tried a second restart with no benefit. Any thoughts?

DYMO LabelWriter ReviewInstalled and works - Version: 7.7.1, 12/16/2007 12:30PM PST

Installed like the reviewed below said: disconnected the printer, moved my old DYMO installation to the desktop, ran the installer, plugged in the printer (which was already powered on) when the installer tells you to do so, and everything works as expected.

However, this software could be better. Though I'm very glad it integrates with Address Book (if it didn't, it would be worthless), editing a label does not seem very Mac-like. If I double-click on the address, instead of letting me edit the text, an annoying drop-down box comes up. And why can I not change the font for the entire label when I have it selected, but do not have the cursor inside the box? I'm doing very basic things - address labels for Christmas cards - which I expect many people do. It's WAY too difficult right now to accomplish this, and I would love to improve the usability. The GUI layout is not necessarily bad, but the steps needed to accomplish tasks is unintuitive. Just changing the way the program behaves a little bit would add loads to its user-friendliness and would garner a lot of goodwill with Mac users.

DYMO LabelWriter ReviewIt's about time! - Version: 7.7.1, 12/7/2007 10:12AM PST

Not important
Dymo was not prepared for the release of Leopard. They had ample opportunity to be a member of the Apple Developer's program and have this update ready when Leopard came out. But no, they opted to save the money and it took them two months to release an update. There is no excuse for that and we will never purchase another Dymo product.

As for the update, it took two installs before it worked. Just like the previous version, it is buggy and a bad effort from a company which has the resources to put out better products. I guarantee you if it was a Windows version it would be a different story. They have no respect for their Macintosh customers.

DYMO LabelWriter ReviewAddress Checker - Version: 7.7, 5/1/2007 03:25PM PST

Installation of the software went fine, but it irks me that Dymo refuses to include the address checker feature that has been standard in the Windos versions. The checker verifies the address and adds a 9 digit zip code.

I am running OS 10.4.9 on a G-4 PowerBook using a Dymo LabelWriter 400. My installation went fine and it immediately worked with my Apple Address Book.

I had the previous version off Dymo on my computer in the Application Flolder. First I removed it and placed it on the Desktop. Next I disconnect my USB from LabelWriter to computer. Then did an installation and after that was complete reconnected the USB to Labelwriter. It worked without a restart. I then trashed my old Dymo folder on the desktop which i kept just in case. Did a Permissions Repair. All works well. By the way I used the installation icon in the English folder. The one standing by itself would not work properly.

I have a Dual Dymo at home running on a G-5. Will try that to night. I also have Dymo Stamps running on one side of this Dymo so am wondering if I should do this upgrade?

The software does not display the Mac Address Book data properly and you have to download and install the software fix below I found on the Dymo website site.

DYMO LabelWriter ReviewPoor functionality for Tape printing - Version: 7.6, 9/13/2006 07:29AM PST

Just received my new Dymo Labelwriter Duo yesterday and installed this software.

Very Disappointing...

I bought the Duo specifically because I need to print tape labels for our filing system (the Duo can handle label rolls and well as continuous tape labels). Unfortunately, the LabelWriter software is SO lacking in functionality when it comes to creating tape labels as to render it completely useless.
I used to use a Brother tape labeler (which I bought the Dymo to replace), and even Brother's P-Touch software -- which is pretty rubbish -- is better than Dymo in terms of what the user can do.
For tape labels, Dymo has limited the user to just one 'frame' of text. Graphics can only be added inline, and text cannot be reversed out or changed from the default colour of 100% black.
For our filing system here, labels need to include a black box contining the 'file category' in white text. With Dymo this is impossible, whereas with my old (3 years old!) Brother labeler it's simple.
What makes this worse, is that the functionality to do what I want exists in the software, but is only available in the 'Label Editor' and not the 'Tape Editor'! What manner of idiocy is that?
Dymo products may look good, but the 'whole system' including the software is seriously flawed.
Frustration, thy name is Dymo.
I'm reluctantly turning my Dymo Duo to the store, and certainly won't be purchasing their products again.
